Remember: Keep the music alive. Music is a gift. You can use that gift. Remember the quote from Berthold Auerbach: "Music washes away the dust of everyday life." It's true. When you don't have anything to do and you're bored ... Play your instrument. Create a music video. Compose a song. Learn a new song. Practice just for fun. It will make things better. Those around you will feel better too. Music is a gift you share with others. Keep sharing and keep playing. email me with concerns or questions: kkolber@eesd.org
Continue practicing from your TOE method book level 2 or 3: log onto your "ips practice studio" link in your book to play along with excerpts. Log into your Smart Music accounts for daily recording sessions. Practice concert materials. Always do a little more than you think you can, take your time and work on great tone.
Practice Logs are handed out at the beginning of each semester. If a practice log is lost, request a new copy. Middle School Band students are expected to practice a minimum 150 minutes per week to develop strong musical performance levels. Practice logs are turned in with a parent or guardian's initial and graded every Friday. Late practice logs are not accepted, except in absences.
Student Practice Guidelines
1. Set aside time each day for individual practice, but practice to improve your playing, not to keep a schedule.
2. Make every effort to show continuing progress by preparing all assigned work thoroughly.
3. Give undivided attention to rehearsals.
4. Warm up your instrument in an efficient, dignified manner before rehearsals and performances.
5. Take proper care of your instrument, music, and all rehearsal room equipment, whether it is yours or the school's.
6. Protect your membership privileges by maintaining high scholastic standards.
