This year we will be sending home several Book Club orders. These Book Clubs offer some excellent choices in children's literature every month. We encourage you to look over the monthly Book Club order forms and select a book or two (or as many as you would like) to purchase for your child. This will help encourage your child's love of reading. The children really get excited when the mailman delivers our Book Club orders and they receive their own copy of a favorite book! Browse all the great monthly club selections at low prices and order online, all while helping our classroom earn FREE books!
Here's how it works online:
1. Sign up at: www.Scholastic.com/bookclubs. On the parent page, click the "Don't have a User Name and Password?" link, then register for your own username and password. When prompted, enter the one-time Class Activation Code: GQ8DD. This code ensures that your order is sent to me.
2. Select the books you'd like to order from over 500 titles available online, and take advantage of online-only specials and discounts. Browse titles with your child, and place your order with your credit card.
3. Send your order to me online by the due date. Books will be delivered directly to our classroom, generally 2-3 weeks after I send in all the orders. Your credit card payment will go directly to Scholastic's secure server. There's no need to send money to the school. Remember, placing your online credit card order is completely safe and secure.
Here's how it works in class:
1. Cut out the order form on the back of the Book Club and fill it out completely with yourchild's name.
2. Send all book order forms together in one envelope.
3. Enclose a CHECK made out to Scholastic Book Clubs. Make one check for all orders, even if you are ordering from multiple catalogs.
Homework is assigned Monday-Friday to practice the skills learned in class. Generally, there is no homework on the weekends, however, if students are behind on their classwork, or do not finish the math lesson for the day, they may be asked to complete those assignments over the weekend. Please remember to check for a Name and Number on both sides of the homework pages.
**This is our homework routine when students return to campus for in person instruction.

Our class will go the library each week. Each student must return all due books in the morning before they are allowed to check out another book. I encourage you to take your child to the public library frequently. Owning a library card and being able to check out books teaches responsibility and instills a love of reading.
Classroom Library - Students are also allowed to borrow books from the classroom library to read in class. They are not to be brought home, but kept in their desk for classroom use.
During the school year, your student will be using textbooks currently adopted by Evergreen School District. They are responsible for the care of these books all year. If there are damages, please notify the teacher right away.
This year our parent volunteers for the ABC Project Cornerstone Program is YOUR NAME HERE! He/She will plan to come in and share a lesson with us once a month. Students love the stories, discussions, and activities that they does with them and look forward to seeing our parent volunteer each month. After each visit, they also send home a handout for the parents talking about the assets covered for that month and often gives suggestions on how you can help your child grow in their social development. Please take the time to read the handouts and do any other additional activities you would like that are suggested. I am happy to have this valuable program at Matsumoto!
CNS Website-- menu, school lunch applications, meal prices, etc.
This year, all students regardless of income status, will be offered a school lunch. This is optional, and students will be able to bring their lunch from home as well.
We will no longer be able to distribute any store bought treats to students, like cupcakes, brownies, cookies, etc. If your student would like to bring something in to share, goody type bags with non-edible items or book donations to the class from the student are encouraged . Parents may also contact CNS (Child Nutrition Services) to order food. "CNS recommends that teachers and parents use celebrations, rewards, and incentives that do not undermine the health of students and/or reinforce unhealthful eating habits." Go to the CNS website for order forms and snack options.
