The "Greetings from Filipino Town" initiative by Hood Famous Bakeshop in October 2019 transcends mere physical representation, embodying a powerful affirmation of Filipino American identity, presence, and community engagement within Seattle's Cultural District (CID). It is rooted in legacy and a community campaign culminating in the City of Seattle passing Resolution 317469 officially designating Filipinotown as an incorporated part of the International District. 

In 2018 the larger Filipino Town Seattle Coalition was formed by Devin Israel Cabanilla to affirm the Manilatown memory of civil rights leader Uncle Bob Santos and those of the Manong Generation.  The C-ID is vital in sourcing ingredients essential to cooking Filipino cuisine for many Filipino American families, including that of Quibuyen. This need for traditional ingredients not only highlights the culinary traditions passed down through generations but also underscores the importance of the C-ID as a cultural lifeline for maintaining these culinary practices far from the Philippines. The C-ID is also home to local cultural anchors such as Wing Luke Museum, the Carlos Bulosan Memorial at Eastern Hotel, the new Uncle Bob's Place community housing building, and historically isangmahal arts kollective, the Beacon, and past and current Filipino American small businesses whose contributions to learning preserving cultural heritage and celebrating. The current cultural organization Filipino Town Seattle seeks to engender intersectionality and cross-ethnic solidarity to continue the international district vision as seen by AAPI civil rights leaders of the 20th century.

This initiative resonates deeply within and beyond Seattle, highlighting a community's desire for visibility and a space to celebrate Filipino culture. The C-ID is recognized as one of the few places in the U.S. where a Pan-Asian community developed consisting of Filipinos, Chinese, and Japanese.  Filipinos finally received full recognition by name for the presence they have always had and the district they helped build. It has sparked a sense of belonging and pride among those from cities with established Filipino Towns and those without, revealing a shared need for recognition and communal solidarity. The longing for places where Filipino Americans can gather reflects a broader desire for communal spaces dedicated to Filipino culture. This yearning underscores the significance of the CID and similar areas as central hubs for cultural expression, social interaction, and community support.
