Clubs

Clubs are a fun and inclusive way to interact with new people at school! If you want to join a club, a list of them is below and the teachers you can contact for more information.

Academic Decathlon

Club Advisor:  Mr. Beatty (ext. 2328) website

Club Description:  Kids are given a set of materials that they study for a semester and then compete against other schools in the county.

Meeting:

Tuesday: Flex period, After school in H12

Accolade (Yearbook)

Club Advisor:  Mrs. Briggs (ext. 2367)

Club Description:  The yearbook club, take pictures and contribute to the Ponderosa Yearbook!

Meeting: 4th period in class

Band

Club Advisor:  Kevin Bowlson

Club Description:  Play instruments and take part of school events while learning more about music.

Meeting: In class, Friday at 3:30 in M1/M2

Campus Light

Club Advisor:  Mr. Wilkes

Club Description:  A gathering of Christian students for support, encouragement, prayer, fun and fellowship.

Meeting: Tuesdays at lunch in J8

Chess Club

Club Advisor: Mrs. Bertram (ext. 2238)

Club Description: Come to learn chess or learn to play at a higher level.

Meeting: Wednesdays and Fridays in K14

Cross Country / Track and Field

Club Description: Participate in Track and Field and Cross Country

Meeting: Afterschool on the track or P1 every day but Sunday

CSF (California Scholarship Federation)

Club Advisor:  Mrs. Hodson (ext. 2348) 

Club Description:  Honors Society

When/Where:  3rd Wednesday of a month in H11 or quad

Requirements:  Membership is determined by grades earned in academic classes. Points are given based on grades earned. An A = 3 points, B = 1 point, an A in an AP course is equal to 4 points, and a B in an AP course is equal to 2 points. Complete information is printed on the application that must be submitted each semester. Membership is not automatic, you must apply each semester.

Drama Club

Club Advisor:  Mrs. Fritz (ext. 2318)  

Club Description:  To organize, promote, and rehearse the two main stage productions at PHS, put on several smaller productions, to organize and fund drama field trips.

Meeting: Monday after school in D1

Fashion Club

Club Advisor:  Ms. Speake

Club Description: A club where those interested in fashion can share their ideas

FFA Ag Mechanics

FFA (Future Farmers of America)

Club Advisor:  Ms. Friedmann (ext. 2247)

Club Description:  Agriculture students in all grades are expected to participate in this club. Leadership skills, public speaking, animal projects, and development of financial responsibility are all goals of the FFA.

Meeting: During class and one Tuesday a month at 6 pm in large gym/cafeteria

Requirements:  Must be enrolled in an Agriculture class.

Club Description: Use flowers and a variety of plants to create assortments.

Meeting: During class 3rd and 5th period

Requirements: Be enrolled in an FFA or Agriculture class or elective

French Club

Club Advisor:  Mrs. Johnson, E (ext. 2322)

Club Description:  Cultural activities such as watching French movies, go to French restaurant, go to plays or museums, games in French (such as Scrabble), and caroling in French.

Meeting: Date is TBD in P5

Hands 4 Hope Club

Club Advisor:  Mr. Thomas

Club Description:  To grow the next generation of socially responsible citizens by engaging youth in community outreach.

Meeting: 2nd and 4th Tuesday at lunch in H13

ILS Club

Club Advisor:  Mrs. Clements

Club Description:  Students of the ILS Class gather together to fundraise for school trips and growing in life skills.

Key Club

Club Description:  A service club sponsored by Kiwanis International and Placerville Kiwanis offering student volunteers for El Dorado County events.

When/Where:  Mondays at lunch in J1

Requirements:  50 hours of service per year. $20 dues and regular attendance at general meetings (members are allowed 2 unexcused absences per school year).

Journalism Club

Club Description: 

Meeting: Lunch in H14

Mock Trial Club

Club Advisors: Ms. Hodson (ext. 2348)

Club Description:  Mock Trial is a simulated trial proceeding created to teach students legal procedures, reasoning, critical thinking, decision making, public speaking, teamwork, and leadership skills.  Students work with a hypothetical criminal case in roles of pretrial attorneys, defense and prosecution attorneys, witnesses, court clerks, bailiffs, and jurors.

Meeting: TBD lunch/flex/after school in H11

Mountain Bike Club

Club Advisor:  Mr. Bennett (ext. 2257)

Club Description:  To enjoy learning and discussing all aspects of mountain biking.

Meeting: Once a month in the cafeteria when announced

Newspaper Club

Club Advisor: Rhonda Briggs (ext. 2341)

Club Description: Manage the Ponderosa newspaper and write about events.

Meeting: At lunch in H13 on March 3rd, April 7th, and May 5th

Physics/Robotics Club

Club Advisor:  Mrs. Brown (2334)

Club Description:  To provide students with the opportunity to advance their knowledge of and interest in physics outside the physics classroom.

Meeting:  Every other Monday at Lunch in J1

QSA Club

Club Advisor:  Kevin Bowlson (ext. 2239)

Club Description:  The QSA Club is looking for members who are both LGBTQ and straight.  We strive to eliminate the social stigmas that are common in society today.

Raspberry Pi Club

Club Advisor:  Mr. Bennett

Club Description:  Learn about coding. 

Meeting: Wednesday and Friday at Flex

Roller Hockey Club

Club Advisor:  Mr. Fulp and Mrs. Yorba (ext.2352)

Club Description: Co-Ed Street Hockey on the blacktop next to the tennis courts.

When/Where:  Every Tuesday from 3-4:30 pm on the blacktop.

Requirements:  Permission slip, in line skates, helmet, knee pads and stick. Release of Liability Form

Science in Action Club

Spanish Club

Club Advisor:  Ms. Walker (ext. 2268) and Ms. Graves (ext. 2309)

Club Description:  To explore a common interest in the Spanish language and cultures of different countries.  This is a social club that offers students a chance to express themselves and learn about others in artistic ways.  Activities include pot lucks and food festivals, watching movies, listening to many types of music, learning dances, creating handicrafts and visiting restaurants or theaters.  Some students often donate tutoring services in Spanish on a monthly basis.

When/Where: Tuesday flex period in P7

Requirements:  Student is currently enrolled in a Spanish course or has taken Spanish previously.  An interest in the cultures of Spanish-speaking countries with an emphasis on art, music, dance, and food. 

Speech & Debate Club

Club Advisor:  Ms. Walker (ext. 2268)

Team Coach:  Mr. Brock Dyer

Club Description:  To compete in local speech and debate tournaments and to improve speaking skills.

When/Where:  Every week Tuesday & Thursday flex period and after school in room P-7.

Requirements:  Compete at tournaments and attend meetings and practices.

Club Description:  To meet and build relationships with students. Also provide experiences that are fun which give them the chance to hear about the love of Jesus.
