Today's Assignment
Complete research on the teams that could do well in the tournament using the above links. Your homework is to come to FLEX tomorrow with a team that you think could win the tournament OR a team that you like.
**People select teams for all kinds of reasons: research, hunches, geography, mascots, etc.**
You should all now have selected a team. Using that team, you will do some research into some of their statistics. We will be comparing the points scored vs points against for ALL of our teams. To make life easy, we will organize the results in a google sheet.
2. Now that you have started you sheet, let us find our stats. Go to the following site: https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/rankings
Find your team in the list and click on their name.
**If your team is not listed in the top 25, then you will have to search for them. Once you click the link, look at the top of the page and click on the "Teams" tab. (Between "Stats" & "Champ Week". Now you are on the page with all the NCAA teams. Feel free to scroll down until you find your team, OR, do a "Edit" --> "Find" and type in your team. When you find your team, click on their name.
3. Once on the team page, you will notice a listing of games on the left hand side of the page labelled "2020 Schedule".
4. We will now enter these results into the spreadsheet.
Game # - This column will range from 1~35 based on the number of games played
Points For & Points against - These columns will be based on how many points your team scored, and how many points your team had against them.
*Notice beside the score of the game, there is a green W (for win), or a red L (for loss)

5. Once all data is entered into the spreadsheet, we will calculate the following data:
6. Average Points For
**Average Points For per game = Total Points For / Total games
7. Average Points Against
**Average Points Against per game = Total Points For / Total games
8. Compare your Averages with other students. How do you feel about your team now?
9. Why is it important to compare Points For & Points Against?
10. Save your work. Save the spreadsheet ~ "Name - NCAA Flex Project"
11. Share this sheet with your Math/Science teacher. You will use the sheet again on Thursday.

You should be completing your data entry of all the points for and against for your teams.
Next steps:
1. Highlight all your Points For. Click on "insert chart". Default is a line graph. Click the drop down and go down to the bottom. Under Other, find the Histogram option. Under Customize, click the Histogram tab, and change bucket size to 5. This option lets you control the size of the bars.
2. Repeat step 1, using Points against.
3. Compare the 2 graphs. In order to do well, a team needs to score more points than it allows. After the research and graphs you have made about your selected team, how confident now are you that they will do well?
When done, continue doing research on teams in the tournament to further help your chances of predicting a perfect bracket on Monday! See links below and videos.
