Save the Evening!: Optional No-Host Dinner with REAC Lisa on Wednesday, September 4th.
It's no secret that Cape Town has incredible culinary options. If you are in town the night before the fair, REAC Lisa would love to gather together to greet you and indulge in some of the great food this city has to offer! (Location TBA; the exact venue will depend on the number of RSVPs to ensure we all fit comfortably. Be sure to fill out this survey if you plan to attend!).
Enjoy our city
If you find yourself with free time in this beautiful city, many great tourist opportunities abound. Here are some of our favorites:
Visit Boulders Beach
... because who doesn't love penguins?!
An easy visit on a free morning or afternoon, accessible by Uber.
Visit Robben Island Museum
Take a tour of the historic prison where Nelson Mandela was held. A half-day trip great for anyone with an interest in learning more about the history of South Africa and the courage of those who led anti-apartheid movements.
Take a Cable Car or Climb Stunning Table Mountain
Anyone visiting Cape Town will surely see Table Mountain as they arrive or navigate the city. For those with a bit of extra time and a desire to stretch their legs, a half day hike, or a cable car ride to the top will allow you to take in stunning views of the city. Pro-Tip: It can get chilly at the top, so layer up.
Wine Tasting
There is a 2-hour drive from Cape Town to Stellenbosch that is sometimes referred to as the "Wine Safari of Africa". For those so inclined, there are an estimated 200 wineries you can visit. One of the closest, Groot Constantia, is approximately 20 minutes from the fair hotel, or you can make a longer day trip out of it!
Eat Delicious Food:
There are many delicious options to choose from in Cape Town! This isn't an exhaustive list, but a few favorites of our Embassy colleagues near the recommended fair hotels to jump start your culinary explorations:
1) The Potluck Club
Delightful small plates with international influences.
2) The Iron Steak and Bar
A delicious option for steak lovers, with celebrated cocktails and desserts.
3) La Colombe
French fusion dining on the V&A Waterfront.
4) Codfather
For seafood and sushi lovers.
