Term 1 Week 8-9
In our Reading, we explored different punctuations that helps to improve our reading fluency. Learning the punctuations helped us to learn how to read smoothly and also put emotions into our readings. In addition, we were introduced to inferencing which is method to make meaning and show our comprehension skill. We read a story and with no words and we made inferences according to the images on each page. Aside from the inferences, we also learn how to retrieve information from a story. To further our reading skills, we engaged in theatre reading where we learnt to take turn and understand cues of when we need to make a statement. In writing, we continued to develop our narrative story that was sequences according to narrative structure. We made effort to include some of the lessons learnt in reading to apply it to our writing. We learnt how to be creative by including clear and interesting details for our characters and settings.
We learnt about place value and have begun to explore to a thousand. The use of concrete objects such as unifix is helping us to understand the place value of a digit. We have also been learning about informal unit of measuring. We used different objects around our classes such textas, scissors, paper clip and even use our feet to measure. We made a paper plane that we all throw and use foot span to measure the distance. We also learn about how to use informal units to measure a surface area. We use unfix blocks to measure given shapes to show our understanding of how to measure an area. We then use this knowledge to compare from smallest to the biggest the size of an area.

We have continued to explore our big idea – Identity to show what makes us to be unique. We watched and listened some audio-visuals to validate our identities, appreciate our unique individualities. We have begun to make video about our diverse cultural backgrounds to show what makes us to be who we are such as our food, how it is prepared and what we eat with it. Some of us talked about our cultural dressing while some talked about the way we greet.
We celebrated Harmony Day of Friday 21st March. We demonstrated the spirit of Harmony that is around respect, acceptance and appreciation of our differences during our social, learning and interpersonal interactions. We joined efforts together with our Buddy class to work together in harmony with respect for one another regardless. We showcased our differences through our colourful cultural dressing and creative activity that display our identity.

Term 1 Week 6-7
In Reading, we continued to learn how stories are organised, summarising, retelling important events in stories, and also bringing it altogether known as synthesising. We also began to learn more about parts of speech and identified them in sentences. We learnt about how to improve on our fluent and smooth reading by understanding the speed, accuracy and expression. In writing, we continued our tradition of writing fluency where we practiced forming correct sentences. We used our understanding of parts of speech in Reading session to form sentence. We learnt about 2 types of sentences – simple and compound sentences. We used different prompts to form correct sentences that will help us write correct sentences by following language structure. We went on an experiential learning within the school yard where we used our 5 senses to write. The end of the fortnight saw us engaging in theatre reading where we practised dialogue reading and learning cues to read our part of the act.
We continued to learn about repeated addition to solve multiplication problems using skip counting. In our skip counting, some of us skip counted in 3s, 5s, and 10s, and we used concrete objects to show our understanding. Also, we continued our learning on how to use calendar to record key events in a month. We are beginning to learn about measurement using non-standard to measure things around us.

We continued to unpack our big idea – Identity. This fortnight learnt about sense of belonging through respecting our different identities. In learning this topic, we created norms about how we can belong into our different and look at what makes us unique individuals. The end of the fortnight saw all the Grade 2s to rotate from one classroom to the other to learn about different cultures around the world. These includes clothing, foods, languages, celebrations, dance and games. These rotations makes us to identify which of these exposure are who we are.
We continued to learn how to build our human capacity in our relationship around the school. The personal and social learning helps us to build resilience in the face of difficult situation and making good decision. We used catastrophe scale to judge severity of problems that helps us in responding to situation. We also learnt what makes a good friend and the qualities we need to build in order to be a good a friend and a family member.
Term 1 Week 4-5
At the start of our Reading session, we engage in phonics that help us to practice letter sounds and forming words. In Reading, we have also learnt how to make connection to a text. We have been opportune to read text of our choice and discuss how we are connected to such text. Beside connection to text, we also learnt about the tools we can use to write summary of a story. We have been exposed to SWBST to guide us summarise the most important part of a story. We are also transferring this knowledge from Reading into the writing of our own narratives. We have started developing our knowledge and understanding by writing our draft on our choice of story. We have been learnt about the structure of narrative story, and we are beginning to understand what we need to add into our narrative to make it interesting for our audience.
Also, at the start of our writing session, we have been exposed to understand and practice language features, use of punctuations, and forming sentences by ourselves. All these lessons help us in developing our writing skills.
In our Maths, we have learnt and understood the chain of patterns and we have used different objects around our classroom to form patterns even ourselves. While some of us make patterns with numbers, some make patterns by drawing and colouring. We also learnt about how to purposefully use calendar to record and note important events in a month. We learnt about the days and months in a calendar year, and we can correctly sort the months. We now know that February has 29 days in a leap year that occurs every 4 years during Olympic games. We further developed our knowledge of how to use calendar by recording some events that happen in the month of February and March. Furthermore, we learnt a mathematical strategy known as repeated addition to solve multiplication problems.

Our big idea in CBL this term is Identity. This theme allows us to discuss and understand what makes to be who we are. These include our cultural backgrounds, religion, our food, dressing etc. All these things make us unique individuals. We have been exploring what makes us to be us around our classes and we are learning who others are based on their interests and things they like to do. This includes their relationships with people, places and things and the actions and responses of others. Identity is not fixed. It is shaped by our individual experiences. When we have positive experiences we develop an understanding of ourselves as significant and respected, and feel a sense of belonging.
In our interpersonal and social relationship, we continued to explore different ways to respectfully and cooperatively work together in our learning environment. Once again, we revisited Stop, Walk, and Talk strategy to reduce incidents when we are faced with problems both in and out of our classrooms. Beside our personal and social relationship, we learnt how to take pride in what we do. We were able to discuss what makes us proud as individuals and what can do to make others to be proud of us such as an act of kindness, being respectful all the time, staying focus, remain on task and completing the task.

Term 1 Week 1-3
LEARNING TO LEARN PROGRAMS
Week 1 to 3 is our learning to learn period where we learn to develop the ability to practise and persist in our learning, and also organise our own learning both individually and in small groups. We revisited all our school values - respect, responsibility, teamwork, and achievement throughout the weeks of learning to learning. We engaged in different experiential and collaborative learning activities to show our understanding and expectations both in and outside of our classrooms according to our school values. Our knowledge to respond to conflict, respectful behaviours and expectations, responsible behaviours that will promote our individual and collective achievement were reinforced during these weeks.
