Our vision for the College’s Senior School is a community of people working and learning together. Classroom teachers specialise in the needs of young adults. They see each student as a whole person—an individual who needs adult support and guidance during one of the most important transition stages of their life.
Staff guide and support students in making the transition from adolescence to adulthood, and life beyond the College, as smoothly as possible. At the same time, they help students become lifelong learners with strong moral values. The senior secondary years are a time when students develop the skills, knowledge, and pathways needed for work and
further study.
We offer a broad range of VCE subjects, acceleration opportunities, select-entry academic programs, and hands-on pathways such as VET. Our College provides opportunities leading to diverse futures, including higher education, a wide range of professions, sporting pursuits, performing arts, and highly skilled trades, among many others.
These opportunities are enhanced by a variety of learning experiences both inside and beyond the classroom. We ensure that students leave as capable young adults, well prepared for life after secondary school in a rapidly changing world. At Edgars Creek Secondary College, young people have access to the support and opportunities they need to thrive
and succeed.
The Senior School at Edgars Creek Secondary College is committed to ensuring that each student can access a pathway that meets both their developmental needs and academic aspirations. To prepare students for an ever-changing and digital world, the College has developed a range of programs inspired by extensive research, student needs, and the best available educational initiatives.
Students are supported in taking responsibility for their learning through a choice of units in Years 10, 11, and 12. As they progress into the Senior School, planning their preferred educational pathway becomes increasingly important in working towards a productive and successful future. The College’s Year 10 programs are designed to provide students with the greatest range of learning choices, allowing them the freedom to indicate preferences across a broad range of learning areas. Students can also select additional courses in areas of interest, enabling them to do more of what they enjoy, develop deeper knowledge in a particular field, or engage with a wider range of learning opportunities.
Early entry into a single VCE subject is available for Year 10 students who are ready for this additional challenge. Eligible students can incorporate a VCE study into their Year 10 program. Students whose Year 9 results are above the expected level and who meet the required criteria will be invited to apply.
Senior School students also have the opportunity to take on a variety of leadership roles within the College, including positions in the Student Representative Council, the House System, and as Year 10 Leaders. Regardless of whether they hold a formal leadership position, all Senior School students are expected to model the College’s values and contribute positively to the school community.
Choosing subjects for Year 10 is an exciting step in every student's educational journey. At Edgars Creek Secondary College, we encourage students to explore their interests, strengths, and aspirations as they make decisions about their future learning pathways.
Our Year 10 program offers a diverse range of subjects and learning opportunities designed to engage students, challenge them academically, and support the development of important skills for future study and employment. Whether students have a clear career goal in mind or are still exploring their options, Year 10 provides an important opportunity to discover passions, build confidence, and make informed decisions about their senior years.
The wide variety of subjects available allows students to tailor their learning to their individual interests while preparing for a successful transition into their chosen VCE or VCE-VM pathway. Students are encouraged to select subjects that they enjoy, are motivated to learn in, and that align with their future goals and aspirations.
We encourage families to be actively involved in the subject selection process, discussing options together and seeking advice from teachers, and careers staff to pick appropriate subjects. Careful subject selection now will help students build a strong foundation for success in Years 11 and 12 and beyond.
We look forward to supporting all students as they take this important next step in their learning journey.
