Weeks 1-3
CBL
The Grade 2 students of Aitken Creek Primary School recently visited Scienceworks to deepen their understanding of the forces of push and pull. During the excursion, students attended an engaging show that demonstrated how push and pull forces operate in the world around us. The show featured interactive demonstrations that helped illustrate how these forces affect movement, speed, and direction. This experience allowed students to see scientific concepts in action, deepening their understanding of push and pull in a fun and engaging way.
Literacy
This term we have been focusing on persuasive writing and literacy devices that authors use to engage the reader such as emotive language, rhetorical questions and an author's purpose for writing a particular text. We have been learning the difference between a fact and an opinion and how to write a persuasive text to share my argument. We looked at the importance of knowing how our audience is when planning our writing and how the audience can be engaged in a variety of advertisements. We have been given the opportunity to engage with different mentor texts that have expanded our knowledge of rich language to engage our readers. We are currently writing our reasons, based on the topic we are passionate about.
Numeracy
In numeracy we have been looking at place value. Focusing on the placement of digits in numbers, reading numbers aloud and representing numbers in different ways, for example with concrete materials. We have been learning how to order numbers to atleast 1000 and group, partition and rearrange collections of numbers. In numeracy we have also began our 2D shapes unit, focusing on the flipping and sliding of 2D shapes. We have also been exploring how to identify and describe half turn, full turn, quarter turn and three quarter turns of 2D objects.
