REPORT UPDATE
Digital Reports
A reminder from our newsletter (2023.06.23)
Currently we issue reports at the end of Semester 1 (end of term 2) and Semester 2 (end of term 4).
We also publish them on Compass as digital documents by 4pm on the day they go home.
As agreed upon at School Council on Tuesday this week, and as an environmentally responsible school, this Semester 1 report will be the last time we provide all students with a hard copy report.
In acknowledgement of the preference for a hard copy report, we will still provide paper reports to those parents/guardians who request them. All you will need to do is email your classroom teacher to let them know this is what you would like.
For further information regarding how to access your child/rens reports (from as far back as Semester 2017) please go HERE.
Student reflections will continue to come home as a hard copy in an envelope.
CHICKEN DUTY WEEKENDS & HOLIDAYS
We are giving one lucky family the chance to win a ‘family experience’. All you have to do is sign up and assist with the chickens on the weekend/during the holidays. Each time you volunteer, you and your family receive an entry into the raffle. If you win, you get to choose what ‘family experience’ you would like. These experiences include; Ninja Parc, Bounce, Hoyts Cinema, Rainbow World and Inflatable World.

LEARNING OVERVIEW
Literacy
Reading:
Through reading daily, students will continue to develop their reading fluency and word recognition. Students will engage in Literature Circles, allowing them to practice various roles: Question Maker, Clarifier, Literary Observer, Predictor, Creator, Summariser, Director and Connector, which will help them better understand the text. Using a Reader’s Notebook, students will also participate in a whole class reading of a variety of books where they will be encouraged to make connections, share their ideas and make inferences from the texts.
Writing:
Students will be explicitly taught and have the opportunity to practise the purpose, structure and features of writing narratives, persuasives, information texts and procedures. Students will practise their editing skills and check for correct grammar, punctuation and spelling in their writing.
Spelling:
This term we have begun the Spelling Mastery Program. The program helps teach students dependable spelling skills by blending the phonemic, whole-word, and morphemic approaches. Spelling Master. The students will be taught the spelling skills to become efficient writers.
Mathematics:
Our focus in Mathematics continues to be one that targets ‘real life’ skills. One of the aims of the program will be for students to understand the purpose and importance of Mathematics in their lives and be able to apply a range of concepts to understand what they encounter on a daily basis. The program will address the areas of: Measurement: Area and Perimeter, Money, Volume and Capacity, 2D and 3D Shapes and Fractions and Decimals.
Humanities
‘First Australians’
Students will study the importance of Country and Place to the Aboriginal people of the local area. Students will investigate such topics as the cultures, beliefs, languages and social organisation of Aboriginal people before the arrival of Europeans, looking closely at communities and clans. They will also study Dreaming stories and their meanings, the significance of the environment, and Aboriginal land management practices.
Science
‘Heating Up’:
This unit is about things that make or use different kinds of energy. Students learn about different forms of energy, including heat, light, sound, movement, and electrical energy. Students also investigate how energy can be converted from one form to another through a number of different processes.
