ASSESSMENT TASK ONE

Superheroes & Villains: Technical Drawing and 3D Letter Design

Step 3: ORTHOGONAL DRAWING

Learning Goal: You will be able to understand and create orthogonal drawings.

Before you start this step:

Check out the introduction to orthogonal drawing and follow the steps or video to do a practice orthogonal drawing.

Choose your favourite design from your idea generation. You will do an orthogonal drawing of your favourite design in this step. You will start by drawing 2 x 2 cm grid....

Instructions for drawing the grid:

The steps below show you how to draw a 2 x 2cm grid on your page.

Make sure you draw the grid LIGHTLY in greylead.

  1. Line up your ruler so zero is at the edge of the page. Mark 2cms from the edge and 2cms from that mark. Put a mark every 2cms. When you finish that edge do the same on the opposite edge.

2. Use the ruler to connect your marks. Make sure all your lines are parallel to the edge of the page.

3. Mark 2cm increments along the other two edges of the page.

4. Use the ruler to connect your marks. Make sure all your lines are parallel to the edge of the page.

6. Use the orthogonal drawing worksheet to draw the front, top and side view of your letter.

Instructions for your orthogonal drawings:

  1. Draw the 2cm grid following the instructions above.

  2. Draw the front view (make sure you have enough space for the side and top views).

  3. Use projection lines to draw the side and top views.
