ASSESSMENT TASK ONE

Superheroes & Villains: Technical Drawing and 3D Letter Design

Student examples of the design process for the 3D Letter

Step 1: RESEARCH

Student 1 has included annotations in full sentences with adjectives that clearly describe the design elements and the characteristics in detail.

Student 2 has included less detail in the annotations, these are more like labels for the characteristics.

Step 2: IDEA GENERATION

Create three different ideation drawings by arranging the design elements and characteristics in 3 different ways.

Student 1 has taken inspiration from the design elements and patterns in Gehshin's costume and arranged these on the letter. They have also added features and accessories like the hat and harp, to the ideation drawings. Student 1 has also included detailed annotations describing all design elements and characteristics used in the design.

Student 2 has taken inspiration from the patterns, colours, tone and textures in the character Wasp and created organic and geometric patterns in 3 different arrangements.

Step 3: ORTHOGONAL DRAWING and Step 4: ISOMETRIC DRAWING

This is where you get to see your letter come to life in 3D. In the isometric drawing see how all the features of the letter line up in the front, top and side views.

Step 5: ISOMETRIC DRAFT

The isometric draft is full-sized. You will trace this to create your final presentation.

FINAL PRESENTATION

See how the light source is coming from the top left corner. The top is the lightest, the front of the letter is in a mid-tone and the shadow is on the righthand side.
