Dear Prep families,
We have had an amazing fortnight in the prep classes. The students have worked very hard this term and have demonstrated new skills across all learning areas. We have celebrated many achievements together and are so proud of the effort everyone has shown. This included publishing their fairytales by incorporating the elements of good/evil characters, setting, problem and solution. They did an amazing job of developing their ideas and sharing their stories to an audience.

Dear Prep families,
We have had an amazing fortnight in the prep classes. The Flying Bookworm incursion was a huge hit with the students yesterday. They were able to watch the actors perform some of the fairy tales we have been exploring recently, with students being able to play some of the characters during the performance. It was fantastic to see all the student engaged and participating. In numeracy, we have been exploring the skill of addition, using stories and various hands-on materials to add to collection together. We have also continued with collecting data by counting the types of transport that pass by the school and comparing this data with another class who collected their data at a different time.

ATTENDANCE
Going to school every day is the single most important part of your child’s education. Students learn new things at school every day – missing school puts them behind. We all want our students to get a great education, and the building blocks for a great education begin with students coming to school each and every day. If students miss school regularly, they miss out on learning the fundamental skills that will set them up for success in the later years of school. There is no safe number of days for missing school – each day a student misses puts them behind, and can affect their educational outcomes. Each missed day is associated with progressively lower achievement in numeracy, writing and reading. Sometimes there are reasons why your child is unable to come to school. If your child is absent please ensure that you promptly notify the school. This can be done through Compass, calling the office or sending a note with your child on their return to school. If you do not have access to Compass please contact the office and they can provide you with your login details.

Dear Prep families,
Wow! Can you believe that we are already half way through this term?! The students have really engaged in our new literacy unit of Fairy Tales; sharing their favourite stories and unpacking the features of this genre. We have been celebrating Book Week this week, and today students did an amazing job at dressing up as their favourite book character. This morning the prep cohort had the chance to show off their costumes to their peers with a parade, followed by a dance to some of their favourite songs.

SCHOOL ARRIVAL
Punctuality is important for your child’s education. Students should arrive by 8:50am, giving them time to settle before learning begins at 9am. Late arrivals must sign in at the office before going to class
TEACHER COMMUNICATION
If you have any queries or concerns, please note that the classroom teacher is the first point of contact as they know your child best. You can get in touch with your child’s teacher by speaking with them at the end of the school day to arrange a meeting time, by emailing the school or leaving a message at the office for a call to be returned. If you are leaving messages at the office, please be aware that communication will be returned within 48 hours. Please also note that it is not possible to meet at morning drop off time as teachers have a duty of care and begin teaching from 8:50am.
MORNING ROUTINES
Thank you for your support in encouraging our little learners to develop their independence at school. Please continue to support this by saying goodbyes at the classroom door. This allows students to walk into the classroom independently and complete their morning routines.
ATTENDANCE
Please notify the school if your child is absent via Compass, phone, or a note. If you don’t have Compass access, contact the office for login details. Return any absence notes promptly to the school.

HOME LEARNING
Students went to the school library today with their class. They have borrowed two books that you can read to them and log in their yellow reading log book. As students' reading skills develop, they will be reading books that support the learning in the classroom. Just a reminder that your child attends the library on Fridays and needs to bring their reader each week on this day. You will also find some additional phonics home learning that your child can complete too. It focuses around the sounds that have been taught in class, as well as word lists made up from these focus sounds. You can also access the online platforms Decodable Readers Australia, Reading Eggs, and Mathletics with your child to explore different literacy and numeracy concepts.
iPADS
The BYO iPad program has commenced and your child can begin bringing their device to school. We will unpack the expectations around iPad use in the classroom and how to access the various apps that will be used in conjunction with their learning. Please ensure that the iPad has all the expected apps downloaded and is fully charged each day. The app list can be found on our school website.
HATS
ACPS is a Sunsmart school and this requires every child to bring a hat to school. Please ensure your child has a suitable hat with their name on it.

EXCURSION TERM 2
We are excited to announce our first excursion will be in Week 3 of Term 2. Please see the event on Compass for all information and methods of payment. Please see your classroom teacher if you have any questions.

MORNING ROUTINES
To help support your child’s independence, we encourage families to say their goodbyes at the classroom door. This allows students to walk into the classroom independently and complete their morning routines.
SCHOOL BAGS
When helping pack your child’s bag, please ensure they have enough nutritious food that will see them through the day, as well as a drink bottle that they can use independently. We also ask that a piece of fruit is packed in their bags, separate to their lunch boxes. This will be eaten in the morning as ‘brain food’ to help provide energy and support concentration. Accidents can occur at school, so a spare pair of clothes is also handy too.

The students have done a fantastic job settling into school and learning all of our routines and procedures. Each teacher has expressed how proud they are of each and every student. Students have worked really hard at unpacking our school values of Respect, Responsibility, Teamwork and Achievement, and making sure everyone is ready each day to try their best with the learning tasks.

Showbie login details will be communicated once finalised. We appreciate your patience with this.
iPADS
The BYO iPad program will commence in Week 7. This means that your child can begin bringing in their iPad and utilising it in the classroom during different sessions. Please ensure that the iPad has all the expected apps downloaded and is fully charged each day. The app list can be found on our school website.

Dear Prep families,
A big welcome to Aitken Creek Primary School! It has been wonderful to see all of the prep students start last week and settle in well in their classrooms. This is a big step for our youngest learners and we look forward to sharing this year of learning with you.
Every fortnight, the Prep newsletter will be posted on our school blog to keep you up to date with any information you may need to know. The blog will also be a place to showcase student learning from the classroom and a great opportunity for you to talk about school with your child.

iPADS
In a few weeks time the students will need to start bringing their iPad to school. Please ensure they remain at home for now, as we will let you know when they are required. A list of the required apps for classroom use will be sent home to you soon to ensure they are ready to use in the classroom.
PREP ARRIVAL
The students have done an amazing job transitioning into their new classrooms. To help support this, we ask that families begin to encourage student independence. This can be done by getting your child to carry their own bag into the classroom, saying goodbye at the door and letting them begin their morning routine. We are lucky to have extra support in the morning from our school leaders and are here to support you and your child.
PREP DISMISSAL
Finish time is 3:10pm. Currently teachers will only be dismissing students when they can see a parent present. Over the coming weeks as students start to become familiar with school, this will change, and teachers will be opening the door and letting the students leave. We ask that you speak with your child in preparation for this by deciding on a mutual meeting spot (this may remain outside the classroom) and that your child is aware that if someone is not there, then they must go back to their teacher and wait. You may also remind them that if they need assistance, staff will be located around the school grounds wearing a fluro orange vest.
LIBRARY AND TAKE HOME READERS
Students scheduled time for the library is on Fridays. Today was their first time visiting the library, where they explored the vast variety of picture story books that we have available at ACPS. They were able to borrow books to have in their classroom library to enjoy reading while at school. Starting in Week 5, students will begin borrowing take home books. These are books that you can read to them and log in their yellow reading log book. As students' reading skills develop, they will begin reading decodable books to you at home through the online platform DRA (Decodable Readers Australia). Log in details for DRA will go home with students when they begin to borrow take home books in Week 5.
