Our Journey in Human Powered Racing
MPS Racing is actively engaging Year 5 & 6 students and their families at Malvern Primary School by participating in the Victorian Human Powered Grand Prix Series https://www.vichpvseries.com.au/ and the Energy Breakthrough Challenge https://www.eb.org.au/.

Since 1991, the Energy Breakthrough Challenge has provided opportunities for students, teachers, parents and local industry to work together to design and construct a vehicle or innovation in technology that will represent an ‘energy breakthrough’. MPS Racing is actively engaging our Senior School students, their families and the wider Malvern community by participating in the Energy Breakthrough Challenge. The program encourages participants to examine and use the latest technology while considering its impact on the environment and the way people live locally and globally. It requires a team effort and an across-the-curriculum approach.

The benefits of this program are extensive. The level of engagement ensures students are actively participating in school and the learning environment. After school training sessions serve to improve fitness, but also build community and connectedness. At Maryborough, students will make a presentation about their vehicle and their involvement over the year. They are required to cover topics of Teamwork, Design and Construction, Community Involvement, Safety, Nutrition and Hydration, Commitment and more. Their public speaking and presentation skills are improved through this process and is solely student lead. Students are required to understand and answer questions following their presentation, which will be conducted by a panel of Energy Breakthrough experts. This ensures their active participation and level of understanding in planning, design and construction is developing. A key component of the Energy Breakthrough challenge is the environmental benefits, so students increase their awareness of the role we can play in improving our environment.
