Classroom Sneak Peak

Foundation students have been busy exploring our first words of the week sun, net and leg in the classroom.

We love exploring the words each morning, identifying the letters and the sounds they make. Foundation are incredible at reading our words within our sentence of the week and practice using our letter sound knowledge to read and write our common words such went and was

We are very excited as we continue to add more focus sounds to our repertoire, it is amazing how many words we can make using these letters!

Patterns, patterns everywhere. Students have loved identifying and creating patterns this term using colours, shapes, letters, numbers, and pictures. We discovered so many different patterns such as AB, AAB, ABB, AABB, ABC, ABCD just to name a few. Students loved creating colour patterns using counters and unifix, colour and size patterns using teddy bears, and shape and colour patterns using little shapes. It was incredible to see students applying this learning when decorating their very own pattern fish – what a colourful collection of different patterned fish we have swimming around our classroom.

Foundation students have loved delving into our Integrated topic of Sustainability. We have been exploring the different ways we can care for the environment and the land around us. It was very exciting to have the opportunity to visit the Kitchen and Garden. Students loved smelling different herbs growing in the garden, holding an egg from our chickens, and folding their very own newspaper pot to plant a poppy seed. We loved learning how to reuse materials such as newspapers instead of throwing them away, and now we get to water and watch our flower seed grow.

What an exciting first PMP session we had! The Foundation students have been looking forward to finally starting PMP and we were in the gym enthusiastically using our fine and gross motor skills. We have some talented students, not to mention the parents – showing off their skills hula hoop, zig zag jumping, bean bag throwing and mirroring actions during Simon Says. We can’t wait to explore more activities in our Julia Donaldson and Aaron Blabey themed groups through this term. A huge thank you to our incredible parent helpers who allow each session to run so smoothly.

Foundation students have been busy exploring our first four words of the week cat, ant, tin and tap in the classroom.

We have enjoyed exploring the words each morning, identifying the letters and the sounds they make through fine motor, sorting and writing activities. Foundation students have loved reading our words within our sentence of the week and looking for our common words such on and the in books we are reading. We are also awesome at spotting coloured words too! Foundation students have been creating words with our 6 focus letters c,a,t,n,i,p - we can build and read so many words using these sounds. Home reading has also begun! Students are gaining more confidence in reading many common words and using the pictures to give them clues to identify words.

Foundation students have been exploring all about numbers this term. We have loved building numbers with bundling sticks, chainlinks, counters, unifix and using teddys to build numbers in tens frames. We have also had fun exploring the properties of shapes. We can count their sides and corners! We even used a variety of shapes to create a cool picture and counted how many of each shape we used. Playing maths games is so much fun, and are a great way to put our number knowldege to work. Games such as 'Number Snake' and 'Get out of My House' are certainly favourites!

Foundation students are having lots of fun exploring our Term One Integrated topic 'All About Me'.

We have shared many things that are unique about ourselves and celebrate our differences as a class. Foundation students have also loves finding things they have in common with friends, we discovered we have many of the same likes and dislikes.

If you are walking around the Foundation area, you may see our lovely illustrations of ourselves on the wall celebrating all Foundation 2024 students

We love our Year 6 buddies! The Foundation students loved having their buddies come to visit them in the Foundation classrooms. They were lucky to have narratives read to them that the buddies wrote and illustrated themselves - we even get to keep them in our book boxes! It was so much fun to show our buddies our favourite things in the Foundation rooms, especially our very own Mini-street.
