The study of Music at Year 9 is a prerequisite for study of Music at Year 10 and beyond. In other words, if you don’t choose Music at Year 9 you cannot choose it for Year 10.
Focus:
This is a specialist music study for the full year. It is designed for students who wish to develop their musical skills further. This course will give young musicians a foundation to enable music study in Year 10 and VCE units. Music aims to assist students in developing their musical skills to a high level in the key areas of Instrumental Performance, Compostion, Theory & Aural Studies and Analysis.
Students perform in recitals at least once in each semester and participate in the Annual Music Concert. Students studying this subject also have the opportunity to participate in Music Camp. Study of music in year 9 will further develop their skills to enhance their ability to be part of the co-curricular ensemble program
Various styles and genres of music are studied with a particular focus on the nuances required to play stylistically and historically accurate interpretations of pieces, as appropriate to each student's instrument.
Year 9 Music is structured so that students develop a strong foundation in the 5 key areas of:
Rehearsing and Performing a program of musical works in ensembles and as a soloist.
Approaches to Improving Instrumental Technique
Composing Musical Works
Music Theory and Aural Perception Skills, such as melodic and rhythmic dictation.
Analysing Music with reference to the elements of music
Special Requirements:
Students need to have been learning an instrument for at least two years and must continue their instrumental music tuition throughout the year.
Other:
Students will be required to pay a fee of $27 for materials used in class for each semester.
