Students at CSC are provided with every opportunity to follow their dreams; whether that is in performing or visual arts, commerce, sciences, communications, outdoor and sporting industries or a trade. We support all students to begin thinking about their pathways and starting their Career Portfolio in Years 7 and 8, with a focus on values and interests. Year 9 students begin preparing for senior studies by delving deeper into the type of work that inspires them through the Morrisby Career Insights program. In Year 10, students undertake a week of school-approved work experience where they can try an industry that interests them or learn about some of the general skills needed in all jobs. In Years 11 and 12 students explore a range of post-secondary options to determine their pathway into work or further study.
Head Start’s Vision is that all Victorian Government school students wishing to pursue an apprenticeship or traineeship are supported to explore SBAT pathways. A school-based apprenticeship or traineeship or (SBAT) is an apprenticeship or traineeship that starts while still completing school.
Head Start works directly with students, parents/carers, schools and employers to ensure:
Students and their families are provided accurate SBAT information regarding:
SBAT employers maintaining safe and supportive workplaces
SBAT’s remaining connected to appropriate school supports
SBAT opportunities are of high quality
SBAT’s allow students to get a head start on their career by combining paid on-the-job training that leads to a qualification while completing a secondary school certificate.
All SBAT’s combine:
Approximately 13 hours of employment and training each week
Minimum required* secondary school attendance (*each school sets minimum class time and attendance rules)
SBAT’s are available to secondary school students who are:
Enrolled in Years 10, 11 or 12
At least 15 years of age
An Australian citizen or permanent resident* (*non-citizens may be eligible under certain circumstances)
SBAT’s can be undertaken in combination with the following secondary school certificate options:
VCE
VCE Vocational Major
Victorian Pathways Certificate

How to choose your subjects Students should choose subjects that are aligned with their Career Portfolios. These will contain details of their individual strengths and interests, the things they are good at, the types of work environments and styles they prefer and further study or training options that will help them reach their career goals.
Career Portfolios can be accessed online at https://mcp. educationapps.vic.gov.au Students who would like to do further exploration and add more detail to their Career Portfolio will find the following websites useful. General information about choosing a career pathway
