Year 10 Technologies

You will learn how digital systems manage, control and secure access to data in networks, evaluate cyber security threats and vulnerabilities, apply privacy principles and use digital tools to make a website. You will also learn to write and test code, design algorithms and user interfaces, and create an app that solves a real-world problem. And you can take home a 3D printed object that you have designed yourself.

You will learn techniques to safely prepare a range of nutritious menus together with the history of food culture in Australia. You will also learn about nutrition, budgeting and the presentation skills needed to design and serve menus for a specific purpose and audience. And you get to eat yummy food that you have made yourself!

You will learn the basics of joining metals using skills such as soldering and spot welding to construct small objects including a small battery-powered car. You will also learn the properties of sheet metal, mild steel, copper and brass, and explore how the properties and sources of metal products contribute to sustainable living.

You will practise a range of sewing and construction techniques before creating your own garments and accessories. You will also develop an understanding of how 3D shapes are made from 2D patterns and adjust patterns to achieve well-fitting garments. You will complete this subject having made PJs, a bathrobe, a shirt, and a footstool.

You will learn to understand simple 12-volt circuits and work from circuit diagrams, assemble circuits with lights, speakers and small motors and fabricate housings for them. You will also develop skills using micro voltage electronics including soldering, testing electrical circuits and basic computer-aided design, and construct a range of small electronic devices with electrical components.
