Focus:
This is a specialist music study for the full year. It is designed for students who wish to develop their musical skills further. This course will give young musicians a foundation to enable music study VCE. Music aims to assist students in developing their musical skills to a high level in the key areas of Instrumental Performance, Compostion, Theory & Aural Studies and Analysis.
Students perform in recitals at least once in each semester and participate in the Annual Music Concert. Students studying this subject also have the opportunity to participate in Music Camp. Study of music in year 10 will further develop their skills to enhance their ability to be part of the co-curricular ensemble program
Various styles and genres of music are studied in depth, with a particular focus on the nuances required to play stylistically and historically accurate interpretations of pieces, as appropriate to each student's instrument.
Year 10 Music is structured so that students develop a strong foundation in the 5 key areas of:
Rehearsing and Performing a program of musical works in ensembles and as a soloist.
Approaches to Improving Instrumental Technique, Stylistic Conventions and/or developing a personal creative voice.
Composing Musical Works
Music Theory and Aural Perception Skills, such as melodic, rhythmic and harmonic dictation.
Analysing Music with a sophisticated understanding of the elements of music
Special Requirements:
Students need to have completed year 9 music in order to be eligible to enrol in year 10 music.
Other:
Students will be required to pay a fee of $27 for materials used in class for each semester.
