VCE French
Focus:
Topics include personal identity and lifestyles, relationships; aspirations, education and careers, the francophone world, historical perspectives, global and contemporary society, technology and science, communication and media, and French cultural perspectives. The skills in this course focus on different forms of interpersonal communication, interpretive communication and presentational communication. This includes informal and formal conversations and interviews, replying to letters or emails, obtaining and interpreting information from spoken and written texts, written and oral presentations, and writing reviews, articles, journal entries and short stories.

French Exchange: students who intend to continue learning French will be offered the opportunity to go on our exchange trip to France in Year 10 or 11, which runs every second year.
UNIT 1
Outcomes:
Students will be able to:
exchange meaning in a spoken interaction
interpret information from two texts and respond in writing
present information, concepts and ideas in writing
Assessment Tasks:
These skills will be assessed through an informal interview or conversation, a listening and reading comprehension task, and a written presentation. There will also be an end-of-unit exam.
UNIT 2
Outcomes:
Students will be able to:
respond in writing to spoken, written or visual texts
analyse and use information to produce an extended written response
explain information, ideas and concepts orally to a specific audience about an aspect of culture
Assessment Tasks:
These skills will be assessed through an email, letter or blog post; a reflective or evaluative piece of writing; and an oral presentation or telling a story about an aspect of culture. There will also be an end-of-unit exam.
UNIT 3
Outcomes:
Students will be able to:
participate in a spoken exchange in French to resolve a personal issue
interpret information from texts and write responses in French
express ideas in a personal, informative or imaginative piece of writing
Assessment Tasks:
These skills will be assessed through a three to four minute role-play focusing on the resolution of an issue; a comprehension task requiring responses to specific questions or instructions using information from written, spoken and viewed texts; and a 250-word personal, informative or imaginative piece of writing.
UNIT 4
Outcomes:
Students will be able to:
share information, ideas and opinions in a spoken exchange
analyse information from written, spoken and viewed texts for use in a written response in French
present information, concepts and ideas in evaluative or persuasive writing on an issue
Assessment Tasks:
These skills will be assessed through a three to four minute interview providing information and responding to questions about a cultural product or practice; a 250 word written response incorporating information from multiple texts; and a 300 word evaluative or persuasive piece of writing.
Other:
Units 3 & 4: Students’ level of achievement will be determined by school assessed coursework and two end-of-year examinations, one written and one oral.
