Flower house
2025
Ceramic
200 x 100 x 100mm
In this artwork, I aim to communicate my childhood perception of home, a warm, safe, magical place shaped by imagination and storybooks. Inspired by Shirley Barber’s enchanting illustrations, I used light, bright colours and fine detailing to evoke a whimsical, fairy-tale atmosphere. I hand-built a flower-shaped house using clay, applying the scratch and slip method to attach elements securely. Careful attention was given to shaping petals, carving windows and doors, and adding natural touches like vines and a flower door handle, all reflecting the magic and wonder I felt reading as a child.
The Heart of Home
2025
Cardboard boxes, cellophane, wood, paint, found objects
350 x 350 x 120mm
To create this sculpture, I began my exploration of the theme ‘home’, and rather than viewing home as a physical place, I chose to see it as something emotional and internal. Emotions form the core of who we are; they offer us stability, comfort, and belonging, but also change, uncertainty, and fear. To express this, I drew inspiration from the film Inside Out where each character embodies a different emotion, and utilised that to create my sculpture by combining many different elements that play with texture and shape.
Nesting
2025
Woollen yarn, cotton, fabric, stuffing, embroidery thread, feathers
285 x 145 x 70mm
My approach to the theme of home was to try to create a feeling of warmth and comfort through the idea of nests- small, warm, handmade and safe places of comfort and familiarity. I recently made soft toys based on ragdolls that I quite enjoyed making myself and found easy enough to do, and wanted to try to do that again. I remembered that I used to crochet a lot too, and figured I could use that alongside my soft sculpture to help create the feeling of home. I used the soft sculpture skills I had developed during the collaborative project we did as a class for this project too, particularly invisible stitches and neat sewing.
Homely Trinkets
2025
Fabric, string, stuffing, paper
250 x 100 x 100mm
I was aiming to communicate the idea of each home I have lived in being unique and special, and each contributing to my story. Throughout my life I have lived in several different houses, and all of them different, and each of the pieces represent a different home, The acorn, for my house in London next to Battersea park, the Flower, a camellia for the house next to my Nonna's, she had a camellia tree in the back garden, the Tree, for the large tree in the garden which gives shade, and lastly the egg, for the ducks that we hatched and raised.

I wanted to create a pot that shows my love for nature and flowers. I made it by shaping clay with my hands and glazed ii in soft colours to make it feel happy and calm. The flower shapes are made from clay and painted with glaze. I wanted it to look handmade and special, not perfect. This pot makes me think of home because it feels cozy and handmade. The flower shapes remind me of decorations we have around the house and garden. This pot shows the hard work of nature. I was also inspired by the aesthetic of the Lebanese singer Fairuz.
