A Kitchen in Use
2025
Hand coloured dry point
190 x 190 mm
When I think of ‘Home’, I think of cooking in my kitchen. It is the place and activity that brings me a sense of comfort and peace. I wanted to communicate feelings of tranquillity, relaxation and comfort. This dry point portrays an idealised version of my kitchen. I added colour with watercolours and pencils.
Alfie
2025
Hand coloured dry point
Series of four, 155 x 200mm
I created these dry point prints of my dog, with watercolour on top, to communicate feelings of safety, comfort and calmness, because those feelings are usually associated with ‘Home’, and I believe that home is not just a place, but something you can feel when surrounded by the right things. I etched lots of curved lines to accentuate the flow of his hair, I also used lots of hatching in the very dark places, like his eyes and nose. Then I used warm toned watercolours to enforce those feelings of safety and comfort.
My one-gallon Tabasco jug
2025
Lino cut and chine colle
Series of three, each 211 x 297
I communicated the idea of loss through a one-gallon jug of Tabasco that belonged to my uncle before he passed away. I have used chine colle to create three bold prints where the gradual reduction of the sauce stops a third of the way down. This symbolises the gradual loss of my uncle while also showing his absence because the jar has stayed unused since his death. I wanted the incomplete feeling of the Tabasco stopping at a random point to be communicated towards viewers as an invitation to reflect upon any reason they relate to my work.
Pearl Scale II
2025
Collagraph, made with leaves, flowers, bark, tetra-pak
279 x 420mm
Pearl Scale II is my second work of my two-part series, both depicting the same image, however in different forms, the first one in lino, the second one a collagraph. I used elements from my garden to create the matrix for the print. I interpreted the theme of home as the idea that true home is your relationship and the security you have within yourself. I wanted Pearl Scale II to reflect my soul and the battle I have with acceptance of myself.
Stretch of Home
2025
Lino cut on digitally printed paper
Four images, 390 x 305 mm
In this series of lino prints, I was aiming to communicate sense of comfort, safety and nostalgia through meaningful places in my life. I wanted to highlight both the intricate and intense nature of feeling at home, both with people and places. To create these pieces, I sketched all my designs in pencil, before tracing them to the pieces of lino with transfer paper. I used a variety of gouges to intricately carve the images. I created a background to print on, made of typed extracts from my family’s letters to me, then applied block printing ink with a brayer, registered it, and rolled it through the press.
