Visual Arts
Subject description:
Visual Arts in Years 7–10 offers students the chance to unleash their creativity, experiment with a variety of materials and techniques, and express their own ideas through 2D, 3D, and 4D forms, from painting and sculpture to installations, video, and digital media. Students discover how art reflects and shapes the world, exploring the connections between artists, their works, audiences, and the societies they emerge from—both past and present. By studying the work of artists across cultures, times, and disciplines, students gain insight into different beliefs, values, and meanings, while learning how their own experiences can inspire and inform their artmaking. Through a blend of practical creation and critical study, students build a body of work, develop research and problem-solving skills, and make informed artistic choices. Visual Arts fosters curiosity, self-expression, and a deep appreciation for how art communicates and connects people across time and place.
The Elective course can be studied for 100 or 200 hours in Stage 5 (Years 9 and 10).
Students are required to produce a body of work and keep a Visual Arts diary.
