Subject description:
Drama in Years 7–10 invites students into a creative and collaborative space where they can explore real and imagined worlds, step into diverse perspectives, and bring stories to life through performance. Through making, performing, and appreciating drama, students develop their artistic voice while gaining insight into how culture, history, and personal experience shape meaning, including the rich traditions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples. Working both spontaneously and through careful planning, they use imaginative play to craft works that spark discussion, challenge ideas, and deepen understanding of themselves and others. Drama nurtures creativity, critical thinking, empathy, and confidence, empowering students to communicate in powerful ways while learning to work ethically and safely with collaborators. Whether interpreting the works of others or devising original performances, students discover how drama can inspire, provoke, and connect people across time and place.
