After WWI, there were many countries that abandoned the traditional monarchial governments for more authoritarian ones. The belief is that authoritarian governments provide a sense of security and offer a strong direction for the future. However, what they turn out to be are totalitarian regimes that maintain total power and control over the public and private life of citizens.
We will focus on the following four countries; Germany, Italy, Russia and Japan.
