Mathematics

We encourage students to:

  • Use the MathsOnline program. Your teacher will be able to give you your child's login.

  • Practise the recognition of and writing of numbers 1 to 10 and then 1 to 15.

  • Ask child what number comes before and after a given number.

  • Practising counting is very important. If your child can count to 10, then practice counting backwards from 10 to 0. Next practice counting forwards and backwards to 20 and forwards and backwards to 30. We have been skip counting by 10s to 100.

  • Use objects around the house, such as pegs, cars, buttons, to add quantities together, giving the total number.

  • Talk about numbers to 10 in detail. I can make the number 8 in many different ways - 6 blue pens and 2 more blue pens, 3 spoons and 5 more spoons, 7 and 1 or 1 and 7.

  • Create their own patterns by using shapes, colours, toys etc

  • Identify different 2D shapes around the house.

  • Measure items around the house using everyday items such as pegs, shoes and books.
