Last term, our fantastic Senior dance group performed at The Central Coast Dance Festival. Our dancers performed, entertained and most importantly, created core memories. We also had 4 WPS students perform at the festival as part of the Central Coast Junior Regional Ensemble. Anabelle C, Archer S, Emmy D and Remmi R represented our school with pride and their item has now been selected to perform at the State Dance Festival in September! Congratulations, girls!

🎉 Welcome back to Term 3!
We’re excited for another term of growth and learning across all stages at Wyong Public School. This term, our focus in literacy and numeracy is on strengthening core skills and building confidence through engaging, targeted learning activities.
Week 3 kicked off with Public Education Week 2025, which is an opportunity to acknowledge our exceptional staff, celebrate the achievements of our students and recognise why we proudly choose public education, where every child reaches their full potential. Read on for details about the incredible things happening within our school – this week and every week!
🔤 Phonics Progress K-2
Our K-2 students are continuing to make strong gains in phonics. Through explicit teaching and hands-on practice, students are building essential skills in decoding, blending and spelling. Recent assessment data shows pleasing progress, with many students applying their phonics knowledge in reading and writing tasks. Check out some of our Year 1 data from Term 1 to Term 3 below, way to go! Red means they didn’t know the sound, green means they did (the greener the better).
🌟 ES1 Speeches – A Celebration of Confidence!
A highlight early this term (Week 3) was the ES1 speeches. We are so proud of our youngest learners for standing up and sharing their ideas with clarity and enthusiasm. Their confidence and speaking skills were truly impressive, and every student should be congratulated for their efforts. Both Mr Welham and Mrs Marler had the hardest job adjudicating this week and are looking forward to listening to Stage One’s speeches next week (Week 4).
➗ Numeracy Across K-6
In Mathematics this term, all students are engaging in explicit teaching of key concepts with some stages using the EAST (Explicit and Systematic Teaching) units. These units are designed to build strong foundational knowledge through structured, step-by-step instruction and repeated practice. Students from K-6 are also participating in Daily Reviews – a short, focused routine at the start of each lesson that revisits previously taught concepts. This regular practice helps reinforce learning, builds fluency and improves long-term retention.
As we celebrate Public Education Week, we reflect on the strength and impact of our school community. Together, we are shaping a love of learning that will carry our students forward with confidence.
We look forward to the rest of the term and all the wonderful learning still to come!
