At Wyong Public School, we are passionate about building strong foundations in Literacy and Numeracy, knowing these skills opens doors to all future learning. Here’s a glimpse into what students have been working on recently:

📚 Literacy Learning (K-6)
Students across the school have been growing their reading and writing skills through explicit, structured lessons.

• K-2 students are developing phonics knowledge - linking sounds to letters - and building early reading fluency. They’re learning to create written texts, with a focus on clear ideas and correct punctuation.

• Years 3-6 students are deepening their reading comprehension by exploring a variety of texts. They’re learning to plan, draft, and edit longer pieces of writing, using rich vocabulary and strong text structure.

Daily review and targeted practice ensure that students consolidate their skills and build confidence as readers and writers.

➗ Numeracy Learning (K-6)
In Numeracy, students are building strong number sense and problem-solving skills.

• K-2 students are exploring place value, basic addition and subtraction strategies, and patterns in numbers. Hands-on activities help them understand maths concepts in a fun and practical way.

• Years 3-6 students are developing efficient strategies for multiplication and division, working with fractions and decimals, and tackling real-world problems that require reasoning and collaboration.

With explicit teaching and regular practice, students are becoming confident mathematicians, ready to take on new challenges!
