Term 1, Week 7, 2026
At the forefront of every decision we make in schools, every action we take, and every conversation we have are students.
Ensuring that students have the best possible learning environment, the right resources, high-quality teaching and learning programs, and a strong sense of belonging and wellbeing are what drive me every day in my job.
This past fortnight, I have been involved in various activities aimed at strengthening our practices here at school. I attended a Port Stephens Principals' Network meeting along with my principal colleagues from nearly 20 other schools, the Director for Educational Leadership (DEL), Mrs Patricia Bowen, and the Executive Director for Regional North Schools, Mr Tim McCallum. The topics of discussion ranged from the NSW Department of Education's updated Plan for Public Education, which has been broadened to improve the quality of opportunities we provide for student voice in decision-making and action plans in schools. This has long been a passion of mine, so it was inspiring to hear that this has a specific focus for 2026 and beyond.
It was only fitting then that later in the week, our Bobs Farm student leaders, along with Mrs Burns, attended the inaugural Tomaree Learning Community 'Lead The Way' student leadership day at Tomaree Primary School. We also have Uncle Leigh Ridgeway coming later this term, too, to help introduce our Junior Aboriginal Education Consultative Group (JAECG), where Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal children participate in discussions and initiatives to help build cultural understanding and educational outcomes for all students. I know we have several excited children already waiting for that. I'm really looking forward to working together with our motivated and inspired leaders to help implement some of these fabulous suggestions. After all, it's their education and their school!
It's been wonderful to welcome Mrs Parker back to Bobs Farm this past fortnight as well. We will be seeing a lot more of her in the coming weeks and months, fortunately. She has developed a pop star status among the students, being the Jump Rope master that she is. I'm sure you've heard or seen your children busily skipping and trying new tricks. I'm simply amazed at the rapid rate of progression they have all made already. I'm really looking forward to our skipathon later in the year and our performances getting up and running.
Our P&C have been busy behind the scenes organising some upcoming fundraising events so be sure to keep an eye out for details on how you can get involved. We always welcome helpers and ideas, too. Thank you, again, to the P&C for your ongoing devotion.
