So, OK, most of us don't love NAPLAN and it can be kinda useless when you get results back 10 years after the kids sit the test. But I find that the numeracy questions from past papers can be useful as reasoning prompts. You could:
display a question on the board for whole class/small group reasoning (what's the right answer and why?)
print them out for small group work
cut and paste for homework problems
use the shape tool in Google Slides to cover the multiple choice options, making it more open-ended
select an incorrect answer and get the kids to explain why the answer is wrong/if it's right or wrong and why
This resource has got all the Year 3 Numeracy test questions from 2012-2016, sorted by strands. Questions have been gathered from the ACARA past papers resource.
Some questions go across multiple strands, so I've popped it in to what I thought was the strongest connection and added other connections in the speaker's notes. You might disagree with some of my sorting, but just switch them around in your own copy. 😊
The front page is hyperlinked to each section, and there's a homepage icon on each slide to take you back to the first slide.
To come:
Once I can access some historical NAPLAN data, I'll add a code/sequence the items from easier to more difficult.
I'll also add in the Year 5 questions, to allow for greater differentiation.
