Years 5 to 8 music
In lesson 1, your students will:
classify instruments into families
discover electronic instruments and sounds
listen to electronic instruments
research an electronic instrument.
In lesson 2, your students will:
describe electronic compositions
experiment with music software
create an electronic music composition
reflect on their composition.
Stage 3:
MUS3.2: Improvises, experiments, selects, combines and orders sound using musical concepts.
MUS3.3: Notates and discusses own work and the work of others.
MUS3.4: Identifies the use of musical concepts and symbols in a range of musical styles.
Stage 4:
4.4: demonstrates an understanding of musical concepts through exploring, experimenting, improvising, organising, arranging and composing
4.6: experiments with different forms of technology in the composition process
4.7: demonstrates an understanding of musical concepts through listening, observing, responding, discriminating, analysing, discussing and recording musical ideas
4.10: identifies the use of technology in the music selected for study, appropriate to the musical context
Appropriate resources
This lesson includes a number of links to third-party resources, videos, websites, apps and softwares. At the time of publishing, these websites and apps were deemed to be suitable.
However, online content changes rapidly and any software that is being used in the classroom should be thoroughly checked prior to each lesson. Students should also be supervised by an adult when using these apps or websites.
Alternative apps and software
In addition to the free software and games listed in the lesson, you may like to download apps or purchase a music education software license.
You may like to look into the following apps: GarageBand, Beatwave, GrooveMaker, Figure and Soundtrap.
Google Form: create a Google Form with activities and/or questions, as well as, the ability for your students to upload of any files they create. Email this form to your students with the link to the Creative Class and all your student responses will be collated in a google sheet.
Google Classroom Assignment: create an assignment or a quiz in your classes Google Classroom with activities and/or questions, as well as, the ability for your students to upload any files they create.
MS Teams: create a quiz or an assignment in your class team drive where students can submit responses and upload any files they create.
Email: instruct your students to email you any responses and files they create.
Flipgrid: a website that allows teachers to create "grids" to facilitate video discussions. Each grid is like a message board where teachers can pose questions, called "topics," and their students can post video responses that appear in a tiled grid display.
Jamboard: an interactive whiteboard which can be used as a feedback board for you and your students to use.
