5 – Flip triangles

Flip triangles

Construct kites, rhombuses and squares.

  1. Using the point tool, plot points A = (–2, 0), B = (3, 0) and C = (0, 1).
  2. Create the triangle ABC:
    • Select the polygon tool.
    • Click on A, B, C then back on A.
  3. Predict the coordinates of C’, the reflection of C in the x-axis.
  4. Using the reflect tool, reflect C in the x-axis. Was your prediction correct?
  5. Use the polygon tool to create triangle ABC’.
  6. Answer the remaining questions in your workbook:

a) Using the move tool, drag points A, B and C. What type of quadrilateral has been created?

b) What type of triangle does ABC need to be, so that the resulting quadrilateral is a rhombus?

c) What type of triangle does ABC need to be, so that the resulting quadrilateral is a square?
