As urban Sydney sprawls in all directions, the Blacktown Local Government Area is changing dramatically. This Geographical Inquiry will focus on the connections between people and nature at Blacktown Showground and it's surrounds. Could the Fishing Bats return?
During this virtual excursion students will investigate:
Rain and Water Sensitive Design: How does the rain influence people and places at Blacktown showground? Find out by reading our interactive iBook about storm water management.
Food: Investigate food sources for Fishing Bats. Students will dip net for bugs in the wetland. Is there enough food for the Fishing Bat?
Habitat: Complete a habitat assessment by completing a sound map, doing a vegetation and bird survey, checking air temperature and relative humidity and investigating how the Blacktown Showground site has changed over time.
People: Students learn about traditional Darug use of the site and identify traditional uses for plants and animals.
