At Strathfield North Public School, our Instrumental Music Program is crafted to nurture students' musical talents and passion for music. Joining this program offers your child a distinct chance to master an instrument, relish the thrill of performing, and cultivate crucial teamwork abilities. It comprises two main parts: Private Lessons and Group Rehearsals.
Once you've filled out an application, we'll assign a tutor to your child. Then, it's up to you to arrange an instrument (see Instrument Rentals/Purchase ) and a convenient time with the tutor for your child's private session. These sessions are half an hour long minimum and occur once a week, with each lesson priced at $50 per half hour, payable directly to the tutor. Families may elect to do longer lessons in consultation with the tutor. Lessons are offered before or after school on-site.
Strings and Other instruments are available to students from Years K to 6. Lessons for some band instruments are open to students from Years 2 to 6 (or younger in consultation with the program coordinator). Students will be charged an administrative fee of $50 a year to cover the program management. See below for fee structure.
Commitment to the Program:
Parents enrolling their children in the Instrumental Music Program commit to participating for the entire year. Withdrawal from the program mid-year is not permitted.
For your child to join a group, they need to have a weekly private lesson with one of our skilled music tutors. These lessons take place after school hours on campus. Currently, we offer instruction in a variety of instruments:
Baritone/Tenor Horn
Clarinet
Flute
French Horn
Saxophone
Trombone
Trumpet
Oboe

Musicianship
At Strathfield North Public School, we offer a diverse array of instruments for tuition, including violin, flute, acoustic and electric guitar, cello, clarinet, piano/keyboard, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, drums/percussion, and electric bass guitar. When choosing an instrument for your child, please keep the following points in mind:
Consider Your Child's Preference: It's essential to take into account your child's preference. Some children have a strong affinity for a particular instrument. If this is the case, it's advisable to honor their choice, as they are more likely to stay motivated and make significant progress.
Physical Considerations: It's important to consider your child's physical attributes and size. For instance, students interested in flute, saxophone, trumpet, and trombone should typically begin around age 7 or 8, depending on their height. However, all other instruments are suitable for children of varying ages and sizes.
Orchestral Opportunities: While guitars and keyboards may not be traditional orchestral instruments, there are still limited opportunities for students to play them within the orchestra. However, it's crucial to understand the limitations of selecting certain instruments for orchestral participation. We strongly encourage students to consider learning a string instrument (violin, cello), woodwind instrument (clarinet, saxophone, flute), brass instrument (trumpet, trombone), or bass guitar, as these instruments are in high demand within our orchestra.
If you have any further inquiries regarding musical tuition, please reach out to Mr Adam Kasalo via email at snpscapa@gmail.com.
Administration Fee
All students participating in the instrumental program will receive an annual $50.00 administrative fee to cover the cost of resources and coordinator administrative time. This is non-refundable and non-creditable. Students learning the piano/keyboard or percussion will be charged an additional $50.00 fee to cover the maintenance, cleaning and service life of program owned instruments such as mallet percussion, keyboards/pianos, power cables, tuning, audio leads, cleaning and servicing.

Fees for private lessons are charged at the rate of $50/half hour. Fees are payable in advance each term directly to the tutor.
