Daily Structure and Procedures
Structure of the Day
Years 7 -10
For Years 7- 10 there are 4 periods in one day, each period lasting 80 minutes - (1hour and 20 minutes):
Period 1 starts at 8:25am. Most students arrive at school between 8am - 8:15am so that they can meet with friends in the playground or Library and feel organised and ready for the day. Period 4 ends at 2:45pm. Many students return home via bus, train or walking.
Monday and Thursday differ slightly. Period 4 ends at 2:05pm on Monday due to Special Religious Education in the afternoon. Bell times throughout the day on Thursday also differ due to Sport in the morning, from 8:45am - 10am. Year 7 are assigned a different Sport each term. Year 8-10 are able to choose their Sport. Year 11-12 attend class or study instead of Sport.
Years 11-12
Students will have some Period 5 lessons. Each subject will have one 40min lesson per fortnight. These occur on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays only.
Students need to ensure that they have alternate transport arrangements for these days as the school buses leave at the normal finishing times.
Lessons
The roll is marked in every period so make sure you are punctual. Lateness is not tolerated - you should NOT be more than 5 minutes late to class. You MUST sign in late at the Office if you arrive to school late. You MUST also bring a note if you need to leave school early, e.g. a dentist appointment, and sign out at the Office as you leave.
Each period will involve a lesson on a different subject in a different classroom. This means you will have many different teachers. ‘TAS’ means Technical and Applied Sciences and could include Metal Work, Wood Work, Textiles, Engineering, Robotics, Cooking, etc.
Year 7's will stay in the same House Class (Campbell, Church, Gipps and Keira) for Year 7, for most of your subjects. Some subjects such as Music, Art or TAS might differ as the classes are smaller.
Year 8-10 classes are NOT graded and are constructed by the Year Advisers. Each year students are moved between classes to develop different peer groups and encourage the mixing of our students to encourage diversity and tolerance of others.
Seating arrangements, classroom rules and equipment may differ according to the classroom you are in and the teacher you have. You must follow each teacher’s instructions carefully, even if it differs from another class.
Most subjects require a book to write in (exercise book or notebook) and stationery (pens, pencils, highlighters, eraser, scissors, glue). Some subjects might also require a calculator, measuring equipment, or a display folder or cardboard envelope to store booklets or worksheets. Some subjects might also require you to type on an electronic device. Some classes might have a hard copy text book or booklet, others might have an electronic text book to use on your device.
Speak to your class teacher either during or at the end of the lesson, if you have a question about the subject, the class work or homework. You can also find your teachers during Recess or Lunch in their Offices or on Playground Duty, but keep in mind that this is their break time too, not just yours.
Technology
Devices, including mobile phones, should NOT be used in the playground at Recess and Lunch. They should be kept inside bags.
Each day, consult your timetable and only bring along the books and other equipment that you will need for the classes you have on that day. You will be given a hard copy timetable but you may also check your timetable online on our school system called Sentral. You will be given a school email address, ending in @education.nsw.gov.au. You MUST use this school address, NOT a personal one, for all online school work.
Teacher emails are different - they usually end in @det.nsw.edu.au.
The school has a BYOD (‘Bring Your Own Device’) policy so you should start to bring along an iPad (keyboard recommended) or laptop if it is required by your teachers. You may also borrow a device from the Library, or your teacher might book your class into one of the Computer Rooms for that lesson. You may NOT use your device in class without permission. It is ONLY to be used for class work, not games, music or social media. It should be fully charged at the start of each day.
