Selecting Language for Stage 6 Study
The language is part of my cultural heritage.
As a first preference, you will need to consider studying the language at the Secondary College of Languages.
Please see this site for more information on enrolment: https://sclanguages.schools.nsw.gov.au/
The language is not part of my cultural heritage.
You would have to study the language via distance education. There are six spaces available on offer to study languages in 2025. This is a Department of Education decision, not a Rosebay Secondary College Decision.
The process of applying to Distance Education (NSW School of Language)
An EOI application will be sent out via Sentral notices.
A student interested in studying will complete this EOI and email it to myself (Ms Lawson) before the closing date communicated on Sentral and the application form.
An interview with all EOI applications will be held with myself and the Career's Advisor to determine candidates' ability to accept the responsibility of online learning.
Candidates wishing to study a language from their own cultural background will be encouraged to investigate the Saturday School of Community Languages programs. This is to maximise the number of students who will be able to study languages in 2025.
Students who do not meet minimum requirements in terms of attendance and application to studies undertaken in Year 10 will be informed.
A notice will be posted on Sentral stating a date and time that the NSW School of Languages application form will be emailed to successful EOI candidates.
This will be posted, repeatedly, at least a week before the email application is sent.
The information will clearly state that there are 6 positions available for the school to offer.
The notice will clearly state that students will need their ERN number from the office for their application.
The application forms will be emailed to all students at the same time on the date communicated on Sentral.
Students have an equal opportunity to be prepared and apply accordingly.
The first six completed applications returned to me via email will be forwarded to the NSW School of Languages who then make the final determination on acceptance to courses.
