Principal choir - APPLICATIONS NOW CLOSED

Eligibility and selection

The Pulse Alive team are seeking talented choristers from Years 5 to 12 in 2023 from NSW public schools to form the Principal Choir for Pulse Alive.

The Principal Choir will provide the basis for the choral sound for the show.

Students applying to be part of the Principal Choir should be experienced at singing in ensembles and holding both basic and complex vocal parts within an ensemble setting.

Please note, this category is only open to individual performers. Students selected as members of the princpal choir will not be able to participate with their school group in massed choir.

Successful students will require the endorsement of their school principal to participate. Students are encouraged to discuss their nomination with a teacher at their school prior to submission.

Students participating in this category will be supervised by members of the Pulse Alive team. Schools will not be expected to provide a teacher for duty of care of these students.

How to apply

Applications are now open for individual students to nominate for the principal choir in Pulse Alive 2023.

Initial auditions will be via video, which must be submitted with the nomination form.

Please complete the Pulse Alive 2023 - Principal choir nomination form by Monday 19 September (Term 3 Week 10).

To audition, students are required to:

  • Upload the video to YouTube (as an unlisted link) or Vimeo with a password (please be sure to include the password to your video on your application form).

Students successful in the video round will be invited to a live audition at The Arts Unit, Lewisham on Saturday 8 October and from this audition the final princpial choir will be selected.

  • Nominations close: Monday 19 September (Term 3 Week 10).

  • Invitations sent to attend live audition: Friday 23 September (Term 3 Week 10)

  • Principal Choir live auditions - The Arts Unit: Saturday 8 October (School holidays)

  • Principal Choir notified of audition results: Monday 17 October (Term 4 Week 2)

  • Principal Choir rehearsals - The Arts Unit: Tuesday 24 and Wednesday 25 January 2023 (school holidays)

  • Principal Choir rehearsals - The Arts Unit: Saturday 25 February and Sunday 26 February 2023 (Term 1 Week 5)

  • Principal Choir recording session - Studios 301: Thursday 2 March 2023 (Term 1 Week 6)

  • Sitzprobe - Ken Rosewall Arena: Sunday 5 March 2023 (Term 1 Week 6)

  • Principal Choir soundcheck - Ken Rosewall Arena: Tuesday 7 March 2023 (Term 1 Week 7)

  • Principal Choir dress rehearsal - Ken Rosewall Arena: Wednesday 8 March 2023 (Term 1 Week 7)

  • Performances - Ken Rosewall Arena: Thursday 9 and Friday 10 March 2023 (Term 1 Week 7)

Commitment

Students selected for the principal choir will be expected to be available for all of the above rehearsal and performance dates.

Costume

The performance clothes for the principal choir will be as follows:

  • White Pulse Alive t-shirt – this is the show t-shirt that is included within your student resource fee.

  • Long black pants – these will need to be supplied by students.

  • Black socks – these will need to be supplied by students.

  • Black shoes – these will need to be supplied by students.

Resource fee

There will be a resource fee of $48 per student (GST inclusive).

The resource fee assists with the costs involved in the conductors, choreographers and tutors working with the students, supports a number of music copyright costs and includes a Pulse Alive t-shirt, which will be worn by all performers as their costume during the event.

Principal Choir members will be required to pay the resource fee through The Arts Unit student payment portal on acceptance into the show.
