Create appropriate work spaces for the completion of class work, homework and study.
Follow the timetable and ensure they fulfil the requirements needed to log their attendance in the first 5 minutes of each timetabled period. If there are issues logging attendance, call the school or email the teacher immediately.
Participate in scheduled wellbeing periods. Students must complete the Wellbeing Check-in in the first 5 minutes of the period. This check-in also logs student attendance.
Be on line and actively participate in the learning experiences provided the duration of all timetabled lessons, showing the same diligence and commitment to their studies as they would show at school.
Notify appropriate staff members if they are experiencing difficulty in completing or accessing school work.
Monitor school communication channels such as their school email daily.
Engage with the preferred learning platforms (Google Classroom for each subject and Zoom for video conferencing). It is important that students know how to access and use these platforms to receive and submit work and do so using their school email.
Maintain academic honesty and integrity in all work. Plagiarism, whether from online sources or from peers, prevents students from developing their own deep understanding and will be managed following the usual processes.
Adhere to the new Departmental policy governing student use of digital devices and online services that applies to all NSW Public Schools. Students need to use their devices appropriately in a safe, respectful and responsible manner when communicating online including email, Google classroom and video conferencing. Visit the Digital Citizenship website for more information and resources about online safety and etiquette.
Utilise breaks between classes to stretch and get moving as they would at school.
Dress appropriately. While students do not need to be in school uniform, dressing standards should mirror that expected of a mufti day at school. When using Zoom, students should blur or set their background to an appropriate static picture at the beginning of the lesson.
Manage screen time by taking breaks during recess, lunch and sport. Devices should not be used during these break times.
Practice mindfulness and manage physical activity. The school will provide suggested activities and routines for students to follow from home. It is the student’s responsibility to engage in these activities through their respective Year Group’s Wellbeing or Cohort Google Classroom.
Seek learning opportunities in their areas of interest beyond those provided by their teachers, such as enrolling in an online course, participating in co-curricular clubs, maintaining wide reading or undertaking other special projects.
Engage in Wednesday afternoon’s Online Learning Hub which is available to students who require additional assistance with their schoolwork. Zoom links will be emailed to students each Wednesday through their school email account.
Respect the boundaries of staff. Staff are only accessible during timetabled periods and between the hours of 8:30am and 3:30pm.
Notify the school of any absences using the usual procedures
Ensure your child has an appropriate space to learn and to study. Often students will need quiet spaces to participate fully in online video lessons. Too much background noise can prove distracting for the student and the rest of the class. A learning environment checklist has been produced by the Department of Education. (see below)
Encourage physical activity and/or exercise.
Take an active role in helping your child with their learning - begin and end each day asking about your child’s learning.
Regularly monitor digital platforms and communication to check for announcements and feedback from teachers.
Communicate with school staff as different needs arise.
Maintain regular routines as much as possible. This may include packing recess and lunch, getting showered and dressed as usual for the school day.
Parents will be notified of progress and online engagement concerns.
Students not applying diligence and commitment to their studies will be processed using regular processes including the NESA N- Determination process for students in Years 10-12.
