PDHPE

OPPORTUNITY TO SHINE

Personal Development, Health and Physical Education (PDHPE) is a broad learning area which allows students to recognise how they are growing and changing, healthy choices, ways to stay safe and how to cooperate and play with others.

Your children may be the elite athlete of tomorrow, or they may not. Through their years at Neutral Bay Public School, they will develop a healthy confidence in their own self, a respect for maintaining a healthy lifestyle and an ability to care for mind and body.

At Neutral Bay, there are many opportunities for students to display their leadership skills, develop teamwork and achieve their personal best. There are many opportunities for those who want to participate just for the joy of belonging to a team, right through to elite athletes who proudly represent at zone, state or even at national level in their chosen sport.

As well as grade fitness, students from Years 3-6 participate on a rotating basis in an age-appropriate sporting program, learning fundamental skills and the following sports:

  • AFL

  • Athletics

  • Basketball

  • Cricket

  • Cross Country

  • Dancing

  • Fitness Classes

  • Netball

  • Newcombe Ball/ Volleyball

  • Rugby League/Union

  • Soccer

  • Swimming

  • Tee ball

  • Tennis

  • Yoga

  • Zumba

Local community venues, including Forsyth Park, Cammeray Oval, Primrose Park and Willoughby Leisure Centre, are used.

During summer and winter seasons, students are given the opportunity to participate in the local Primary Schools Sports Association (PSSA) in soccer, netball and tee ball.

School-based Swimming, Athletics and Cross Country Carnivals are held annually in which all primary students participate. Successful competitors are selected to compete in zone and regional carnivals.

Year 5 students visit Great Aussie Bush Camp in Term 1 and participate in a number of outdoor activities including rock climbing, canoeing, 'Lost Island', dual flying fox, high ropes, archery and raft building.

In every sport, teachers and coaches encourage the values of teamwork, sportsmanship and commitment-valuable character traits that will stand our students in good stead for the rest of their lives.
