Our school has multiple annual carnivals. Our carnivals allow students to compete in activities and earn points for their house. Each house will have its own house captains who assist in organising events. If students require assistance during school carnivals, they can find a teacher or house captain to help.
Our school also hosts many charity events, the most prominent of which would of course be the World's Greatest Shave. During this event, students who have nominated themselves can have someone shave their head to support leukaemia. Our 2025 World's Greatest Shave efforts raised over $100,000.
Merewether High School also has cross country, a mandatory activity where students will run a set distance. Students will also be able to participate in optional novelty events such as tug-of-war, egg and spoon races, and the three legged race. These novelty events promote teamwork within sports houses as students work together for house points. If students manage to exceed a certain threshold during the main race then they will be given the option to proceed to zone, an event where said students will compete with the top students from other schools.
