Welcome to Country

Welcome to Wiradjuri Country

In the Riverina we emphasise the importance of Aboriginal Country, Aboriginal people, Aboriginal language and Aboriginal culture in our school communities.

Today we meet on Wiradjuri Country and we thank Aunty Joycelan Williams for welcoming everyone onto her Country, giving permission for this excursion to be hosted in Wagga Wagga and the safe passage and protection offered to all.

Aunty Joycelan Williams is a proud Wiradjuri Elder who is the Elder in residence at the Riverina Environmental Education Centre.

In return we offer our respect to the protocols and rules of the custodians of this land.

We show our Yindyamarra.

Yindyamarra is the heart of Wiradjuri culture and lifestyle.

Yindyamarra carries a meaning and qualities of “Respect, going slow, honouring and taking responsibility”
