IQ1: How are ions present in the environment identified and measured?
Students:
● conduct investigations and/or process data to determine the concentration of coloured species and/or metal ions in aqueous solution, including but not limited to, the use of:
– colourimetry
– ultraviolet-visible spectrophotometry
– atomic absorption spectroscopy
This presentation reviews colourimetry and introduces UV Vis Spectroscopy.
Recall - we last saw colourimetry in Module 5 to determine the Keq of FeSCN equilibria.
USYD has some fantastic explanations of UV-Vis Spectroscopy with annotated spectra as examples.
