SCHOOL HOLIDAYS ARE HERE!
It's been a long term for everyone, so I hope you all have the opportunity to relax and re-energise after living with the current restrictions and doing remote learning.
If your child / young person is looking for something to do in the holidays the local councils have a variety of fun holiday activities to do. There's everything from games, trivia, virtual escape rooms, art and dance. Click on the following councils to see their programs. Some are continuing to run their usual weekly virtual connect programs rather than a specific holiday program.
Also, check out the "Where to Guide - For when you can't go anywhere" has some ideas for entertaining kids (young and old) during lockdown. This resource can be found on our Wellbeing Hub.
The Northern Centre and Catholiccare are running the popular Tuning into Teens program next term. Click here for more information and to register.
Also, if your child / young person is looking for something creative to do over the holidays Creative Kids Wonderland has craft and art kits that can be brought by using your creative kid’s voucher. Please click on the links below for further details on types of kids and how to use your NSW Creative Kids Voucher.

Hunters Hill Community Connection Project
The Hunters Hill Community Connection project will provide a series of short video clips with members of our community sharing experience and connection. The premise is that perhaps in the current situation many of the wonderful elements of our school community are difficult to access: smiling faces, impromptu conversations, moments of success and failure, eye contact.
Through these short video interactions we can provide a glimpse of some of these wonderful human interactions
and share the positives and challenges of working remotely as a part of the Hunters Hill High School community.
We hope you enjoy watching the videos which are also posted to the HHHS FB pages and Sentral!

VAPING-Important Information
Vaping is the act of inhaling a vapour produced by an e-cigarette or electronic vaporizer. The vapour can contain nicotine and other substances and may expose users to chemicals and toxins which are harmful to health. The devices are small and can be easily hidden in a pocket or bag. The most popular disposable vapes resemble large USB sticks or highlighter pens.
The vapes pictured contain 5% nicotine, which is the equivalent of a strong pack of cigarettes. Nicotine is addictive and can harm brain development and impact learning, memory and attention.
The Public Health (Tobacco) Act 2008 was amended in 2015 to define e-cigarettes and e-cigarette accessories to be separate from tobacco products. The Act makes many of the provisions that apply to tobacco products also apply to e-cigarettes and e-cigarette accessories. The Act makes it an offence:
To sell e-cigarettes and e-cigarette accessories to persons aged under 18
For adults to buy e-cigarettes and e-cigarette accessories on behalf of persons aged under 18
The NSW Department of Education has advised schools that students should not bring e-cigarettes or e-cigarette accessories onto school premises or use them during school-based activities. Consistent with Department of Education and school policy - vaping, selling or being in the possession of e-cigarettes will result in our students being reported to their parents and to their home school for disciplinary action.
We are asking parents to be informed about this ongoing concern and to speak to their children about making positive decisions. Additional information to support parents and students can be found below and by clicking on this link:

2020 has been relentless. It’s affected all of us in so many different ways – and for some people, they’ve got very little left in their tank and the simple act of just showing up to work can be a tough ask.
We all need to remember to take care of ourselves, and each other by:
looking for changes in mood and behaviour in ourselves and each other
listening with kindness to our colleagues and students who may need support
seeking advice and connecting with people who can help.
Updated Northern Sydney Child and Youth Mental Health Services Directory - July 2020
Although the reality of the Coronavirus is ongoing, we are all experiencing various levels of transition across Australia and New Zealand. Whilst many children may be excited at the prospect of lockdown restrictions being lifted, others may feel mixed emotions.
As we adjust to new routines, keeping a check on our young people’s mental health and wellbeing will be vitally important. In this Special Report we share a few ideas to help ease this time of transition and adjustment.
We believe we should work hard in order to be happy, but could we be thinking about things backwards? In this fast-moving and very funny talk, psychologist Shawn Achor argues that, actually, happiness inspires us to be more productive.
