Personal Teaching Philosophy

There is a proverb with the words ‘Give me a fish, and I will eat for the day, teach me how to fish and I will eat for life’. This has been transcribed by Dennis Duncan in relation to Education 

"Ask a man a question and he inquires for a day; 

Teach a man to question and he inquires for life.”

It is with this philosophy in mind that has me thinking not what our limits are but where we can go from here and what technology tools we can use as vehicles to get there?

Martin Luther King moved many people in his “I have a Dream” speech in which he said... “I have a dream that one day on the red hills of Georgia, sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave owners will be able to sit down together at the table of brotherhood. I have a dream that my four children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the colour of their skin, but by the content of their character.” Some years later Dr King’s dream came true and through this dream he envisaged and fought for, there followed generations of dream keeper’s who came to see the dream fulfilled. His work and dream also touched me as a person and an educator, in that I have my own dream.

I hope to create a classroom that will encourage every individual to be a dream believer and have the belief that they can make their own dreams come true. I believe that I can do this by a philosophy, which will underline my programme delivery, management procedures and activities based on a series of assumptions, which I believe:

• That every child, has dignity and worth with the right to their own uniqueness.

• That this generation is ICT rich and that to be active in this world, the children need to be ICT literate and equipped for inquiry based learning.

• That children, need to be fostered in their multiple intelligences, accepting their strengths and working on their weaknesses.

• That learning to learn is as important as what is learned.

• I believe in the infinite capacity of children to grow and learn when they are treated with support, enthusiasm and respect.

• I believe in fulfilling what I believe to be a philosophy in which will encourage children to reach beyond their potential.
  
  I will have seen my dream accomplished, even if only one child in my class becomes a Dream believer!

My future direction...is to continue to be a life long learner who moves with the changes being resilient,innovative and creative. Who is passionate about Education and making it engaging and accessible to all future learners. I will also continue to push myself as a leader and those around me to continue to grow and be curious.
