Indigenous Veterans

Aboriginal and Torres Strait people serving their country.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait people have a proud history of contributing to Australia’s defence efforts in the Army, Navy and Air Force.

They made a direct contribution to Australia’s World War 2 efforts as service men or women or civilian labourers. It is difficult to give an exact number as ethnic background was not recorded on service records on enlistment.

It is known that many Indigenous men and women served with great distinction and many received medals and commendations for their bravery.
