Empire Bay WW2: the stories behind their names
WW2 Cenotaph, August 2020. A Cenotaph is a monument to someone buried elsewhere, especially one commemorating people who died in a war. The Empire Bay Cenotaph is a sandstone column with black marble and bronze plaques on a sandstone plinth. The memorial is accompanied by a flagpole and several plaques. It is located on a roundabout at the end of the road near the Kendall Road Public Wharf.
Telling their stories is a joint project between Empire Bay Public School and Empire Bay Progress Association. By highlighting the background stories behind the names of the service men and women on the Cenotaph, we are building an understanding of the significant contributions our veterans have made to the local area and providing students with a resource to explore the impact of war on families and communities.
