Citing and referencing correctly is about more than simply following university rules. These rules are in place to protect your work, as much as they are to protect the work of others.

Please Note: A Reference list is everything that has been cited in your work. A Bibliography is everything that contributed to your work, including additional reading, but may not have been cited within your work. Your teacher will tell you which one to use.

By showing that your work is based on that of experts in the field, you show your readers that your own ideas and conclusions are valid (fact vs opinion).

It is unlikely that you will answer ‘Yes’ to all the questions, unless all your content is original. If you have answered no to any of these questions you will need to cite and reference the sources.
