Terminology Changes
NESA registered is not NESA accredited
TIPD is now Elective PD
Important Dates
Changes are now in effect
Teachers’ maintenance due in Term 1, 2021 can submit maintenance under current conditions·Registered courses delivered after 30/11/2020 will not be counted as registered but as Elective PD (TIPD) counted towards their hours.
All previously registered courses were de-registered on 30/11/2020 (new applications will be needed)
Changes to requirements
Proficient Accreditation
At least 50 hours of NESA Accredited PD across priority areas
The remaining hours can be combination of NESA Accredited or Elective PD
HATs or LEAD
At least 20 hours NESA Accredited PD across priority areas
20 hours of professional commitment
Remaining hours can be combination of NESA Accredited or Elective PD
Proficient Teachers due in 2021
If you have already completed your 100 hours, your remaining hours completed and logged will need to meet the Elective PD criteria
Proficient Teachers from 2022 onwards
You must complete at least ONE NESA Accredited PD course in a priority area (see below)
Remaining hours must meet Elective PD criteria.
You are encouraged to complete Accredited PD as it becomes available.
Accredited courses need to fall under at least one of the following priorities:
Delivery/Assessment of NSW curriculum
Student mental health
Students with disability
Aboriginal Education and supporting Aboriginal students Any PD already logged will continue to contribute to your 100 hours of PD
Elective PD Requirements
All Elective PD MUST address at least THREE of the following:
enhance teaching practice to effect positive change and impact on student/child learning progress and achievement
link to clear and relevant goals that are related to improving student/child outcomes
be job-embedded and provide opportunities for collaboration, transference and application
involve opportunities to give and receive feedback and/or undertake self-reflection and reflection on the teaching practice of others
be research based and evidence based
Professional Reading as Elective PD must address the following:
meet the Standards at the applicable accreditation level
be job-embedded and provide opportunities for collaboration, transference and application
be a self-reflection on how this reading has impacted teaching practice
be research based and evidence based.
Professional Commitment
These are activities that shows your capacity to support professional development, practice of your colleagues and the wider education community. They include:
Mentoring and coaching teachers or teacher education students (pre-service teachers)
Supervising teacher education students, newly appointed teachers requiring accreditation and proficient teachers
Leading professional development or education forums
Professional teaching associations or networks
Developing and implementing projects in schools or for the wider education community
Writing for publications that contribute to teacher professional knowledge
Further Study as PD
You can now log relevant undergraduate or postgraduate study as PD.
Submit an academic transcript as evidence of enrolment and completion
The study must relate to at least one standard descriptor
Be at the level of diploma or higher (Australian Qualification Framework level 5 – Diploma, Advanced Diploma, Associate Degree, Bachelor Degree, Bachelor Honours Degree, Graduate Certificate, Graduate Diploma, Masters Degree, Doctoral Degree)
One eligible unit of study will contribute 50 hours of Elective PD
