History
Ancient History – 2 Units, Board Developed Course
The study of Ancient History engages students in an investigation of life in early societies based on the analysis and interpretation of physical and written remains. It offers students the opportunity to investigate the possible motivations and actions of individuals and groups, and how they shaped the political, social, economic and cultural landscapes of the ancient world. Ancient History stimulates students’ curiosity and imagination and enriches their appreciation of humanity by introducing them to a range of cultures and beliefs as well as to the origins and influences of ideas, values and behaviours that are still relevant in the modern world.
The knowledge, understanding and skills that students acquire through studying Ancient History provide a firm foundation for further study, the world of work, active and informed citizenship, and for lifelong learning. It fosters a critical approach to understanding events, issues and interpretations as well as the effective communication of accounts conveying ideas, judgements and evidence.

Core Study: Cities of Vesuvius – Pompeii and Herculaneum
N.B Students are required to complete a Historical Analysis in Year 12

Modern History stimulates students’ curiosity and imagination, and enriches their appreciation of humanity by introducing them to a range of historical developments and experiences that have defined the modern world.

Studies of Religion I OR Studies of Religion II - Board Developed Course
In Studies of Religion, students study multiple religious traditions. Depth Studies undertaken in Year 11 establish the foundation for further study into major world religions throughout the Year 12 course. Options for Religious Tradition Depth Studies include Judaism, Christianity, Buddhism, Hinduism and Islam. Within each depth study, students learn about the origins of the religion, ethical practices, significant beliefs, individuals, practices and schools of thought.
Studies of Religion I and II Unit courses enable students to come to an understanding that each religious tradition has its own integrity and contributes to a well-ordered society. Students develop their skills in analysis, independent research, collaboration and effective communication. These skills empower students to become critically reflective life-long learners. Studies of Religion provides a learning experience that prepares students for further education and training, employment and full and active participation as citizens within society.
