Learning from Home
Your child's school will communicate with you and provide learning activities for your child to do at home, using their normal communication methods such as the school website, newsletters, emails and other online tools.
We have been advised that students working from home will be marked as "Flexible". Flexible leave covers students who are participating in a flexible timetable and who are not present at school as a result of the recent government advice. This type of leave will not have a negative impact on ROSA or HSC attainment. Parents will still be notified of their child's absence via SMS so that those students who are meant to be at school can be accounted for.
Whilst our school will remain open, we urge you to ONLY send your child if you have no other option for their care or your work means you are unable to provide adequate supervision.
Students learning from home will be able to access the lesson material that those students who attend school can - as long as they have access to the appropriate technology. Students that attend school will be supervised by teachers as they work through online material provided.
Lessons each day will not be ‘normal’ lessons as you might know it. To be clear – Blacktown Boys High School will continue to operate, but with much fewer students, who are receiving supervision as they complete units of work, not traditional classroom experiences.
Parents of students at home who do not have access to online learning will be provided an alternative option for learning. Please contact the school directly if you do not have access to technology at home. Work is available for those parents who think that this may be an issue.
As advised by NESA, Blacktown Boys High School will continue to adhere to the HSC Assessment Schedule provided to students last year. Where necessary, staff have been asked to make adjustments to support students during this challenging time. Your class teacher will contact you and provide you with information related to any changes that may be required.
Chair of the NESA Board, Professor Peter Shergold said he had three important messages for HSC students:
1. We know you are worried. While we recognise we are facing an unprecedented situation, we want to assure you that you will be able to get a HSC certificate this year, and that the certificate will facilitate access to university, further education and employment, as it has for students over the past 50 years.
2. Keep learning, do your assessments as advised by your school, make progress on your major projects where you can and, most importantly, look after yourself, whether you are at school or at home. Reach out to family, friends and your teachers if you need to.
3. If you get sick, your school and NESA have provisions to ensure you are not disadvantaged.
Parents will be notified of their child's absence via SMS every day so that those students who are meant to be at school can be accounted for. Unfortunately, plans change and the safest way to ensure that students are being cared for is to message parents and carers every day to receive confirmation of their child's absence from school if they have been marked away. We hope that you understand our duty of care in this instance and thank you for your co-operation.
